The Department of Anthropology & Sociology at Albion College invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor in Sociology for the 2021-2022 academic year. This position will actively promote diversity, belonging and equity through critical and compassionate communication and strategic outreach efforts to various students, faculty and staff (e.g., historically under-represented, first-generation, undocumented and DACA students, LGBTQ students). Albion College is an anti-racist institution. Candidates should have experience with and be enthusiastic about teaching students from diverse backgrounds.
The teaching load is three courses per semester and includes the possibility of contributing to Albion's core curriculum and interdisciplinary programs. In the fall the successful candidate will teach 1) Introduction to Sociology; 2) an upper-level course on social stratification, inequality, and social mobility; and 3) a first-year seminar with content of the instructor's choosing. In the spring, the teaching load will include an upper-level course in the visitor's area of expertise, a section of Introduction to Sociology, and a third course to be determined. A Ph.D. is preferred but not required at the time of appointment. Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching is essential.
