POSITION SUMMARY

Assist with general laboratory organization and maintenance, duties include but are not limited to, restock media, autoclave tubes, refill jars, dispose of boxes and waste, clean water bath, ensure inventory is maintained and make LB liquid medium and LB plates with antibiotics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(100%) Research and Lab support

  • Weaning, tagging, tailing and genotyping of mice.
  • Prepare standard media and solutions.
  • Perform weekly inventory of lab supplies.
  • Stock and organize incoming lab supplies.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • No professional experience required
  • Experience with basic pipetting skills
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry needed to prepare media & buffers

Preferred:

  • Basic laboratory skills
  • Animal handling (will train)

EDUCATION

Required:

  • Undergraduate coursework in biological or related sciences

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working in a lab environment

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Required:

  • Ability to maintain focus while performing repetitive task is essential
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and write) needed to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment
  • Ability to pay extreme close attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate required information and keep accurate records of work performed
  • Ability to diplomatically and professionally interact with all levels of Institute staff and external contacts
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and safety procedures
  • Experienced with PC & MAC operating systems, standard business office equipment and commonly used software and tools, such as Microsoft Office, Excel and the internet

Preferred:

  • Understands operation of basic lab equipment
  • Familiarity with making stock solutions

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment.
  • Satisfactory completion of the Institute's background investigation.
  • Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires constant adjust focus, grasping, hearing, keying, seeing, sitting, talking, analyzing, calculating, communicating, reading, reasoning, writing, and working inside.
