SUMMARY

The faculty member for the undergraduate mathematics division will teach undergraduate courses as assigned by the Mathematics Discipline Coordinator. The position will also assume the role of mathematics literacy coach for the students in the undergraduate program. This position is expected to be an active member of the department in support of students, course and program development, and work on committees as needed.

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE

• Teach a minimum of twelve credit hours per academic semester.
• Provide weekly office hours to students
• Develop and modify syllabi
• Serve on appropriate institutional governing bodies and committees
• Provide career and academic support to students
• Assist in the development of protocols to attract diverse students
• Serve as mathematics literacy coach to promote student academic growth in mathematics skills
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to teach the following on the collegiate level: Introduction to Algebra, College Algebra, Pre-Calculus
• Ability to serve as mathematics literacy coach to students
• Earned MA or M.ED. Mathematics
• Highly successful teaching experience with positive student outcomes
• Be able to engage students in the learning process
• Be able to make mathematics relevant to daily life and give meaning to mathematical concepts (The "Why of Math," make it meaningful).
• In-depth and specific knowledge in content, curriculum, instruction, and assessment
• Current and strong knowledge in the relationship among curriculum, instruction, and assessment
• Good presentation skills and ability to provide facilitation of learning groups
• High quality inclusive instruction and ability to differentiate to meet the needs of all learners
• Knowledge of PDE skill-based competencies and the knowledge of instructional methods that are appropriate for the intended competencies to be mastered by all learners.
• Knowledge of data-informed instruction that contributes to measurable increases in student achievement.
• Provide sufficient support and resources over time to enable individuals to master new skills.
• Contribute to building learning communities and continuous improvement and assure that students demonstrate attainment of the PDE skill competencies
• Ability to be a powerful listener and expert communicator.
• Ability to balance compassion and patience with the ability to have honest and strategic conversations with students.
• Deep expertise in facilitation, reflection, and research-proven instructional practices.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to always work toward the ultimate goal-increasing student achievement in mathematics of all learners
