Chapman University seeks applications for a non-tenure track Instructional Assistant Professor of School Counseling in the Donna Ford Attallah College of Educational Studies starting August 2021.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D./Ed.D/Psy.D.) by start of employment in counseling or related field from an accredited institution is required.
  • Familiarity with the ASCA model.
  • Demonstrated potential of effective teaching at the graduate level.
  • Active engagement in providing professional development to school counselors.
  • Active involvement in state and national professional organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build beneficial and productive working relationships within the university and public education communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise school counseling fieldwork and teach graduate courses directly related to school counseling.
  • CA credential (or equivalent) and 5 years of professional experience in school counseling.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in education and must be willing to contribute to the University Diversity and Inclusion plan.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with development and implementation of innovative clinical and school counseling programs.
  • Experience in coordinating or directing graduate level programs in school counseling.
  • Ability to design and implement program and course assessment tools.
  • Ability to teach courses across CSP program courses (i.e., school counseling, school psychology, clinical counseling) as needed.
  • CA licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Psychologist, LPCC, MFT, or LCSW.
  • Graduate of CACREP, APA or equivalently accredited program.
  • Expertise and facility with technology, including remote instruction.
  • Experience serving and/or teaching in underserved communities.
  • Ability to build beneficial and productive working relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach, advise, and mentor students across the Counseling and School Psychology (CSP) Programs, particularly those in the School Counseling track. These programs prepare students to effectively serve as counselors and educators in a range of organizations, collaborating with individuals, families, communities, and schools toward an inclusive, equitable, and just world.

This is a full-time, non-tenure track position that requires work to be performed in the State of California and has in-person teaching responsibilities and required on-campus availability at Chapman's Orange campus.

Responsibilities include:
  • Teach counseling and school psychology courses. Current course descriptions are available at https://catalog.chapman.edu.
  • Stay informed of research and cutting edge practices in the field of school counseling, supervision, and mental health.
  • Actively contribute as an integral member of the school counseling and school psychology faculty in the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of the overall program and its curriculum.
  • Actively participate in the continuing education of school counselors, counselors and/or school psychologists through presentations at conferences, school district partnerships, and local professional organizations.
  • Provide academic advising and professional mentorship to school counseling and school psychology students and alumni.
  • Actively participate in the design, implementation, and interpretation of assessment systems that evaluate the efficacy of the school counseling program.
