Job Description
Position Summary: Tougaloo College-a private four-year co-educational institution in Jackson,
Mississippi-invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Public Policy and
Administration, which will begin in the Fall 2021 semester. In addition, the faculty member will serve as the Director of the Eric H.
Holder, Jr. Public Policy Program in the Reuben V. Anderson Institute for Social Justice. The successful applicant is expected to teach
three (3) policy-related undergraduate courses per semester.
As Director, the selected applicant will be tasked with 1)
articulating a vision and strategic plan for the program; 2) overseeing an interdisciplinary minor in Public Policy and Administration,
which is housed in the Department of Political Science, and working with department/division faculty to design curriculum; 3) identifying
and obtaining external funding through grants and contracts; and 4) working with staff to execute the mission of the RVA Institute for
Social Justice.
Experience/Qualifications: Candidates with a doctoral degree in Public Policy and
Administration are preferred. ABD applicants may also be considered. Candidates with at least eighteen credit hours of graduate coursework
in Political Science are desirable. Teaching experience at a community college, four-year college, or university preferred. We are
particularly interested in candidates who have a strong record of social justice and/or public policy research and can combine impactful
scholarship with community engagement; have the ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty and community stakeholders; and
possess excellent interpersonal communication, administrative skills, and grant writing experience.
