Position Summary: The Office of Teacher Education in the School of Education seeks applicants for a faculty position to serve as the Coordinator of Clinical Placements. This is a full-time, term, non-tenure-track faculty appointment. The term of the appointment is 9 months for the academic year, with a partial summer appointment, depending on programmatic needs and employee performance. The Office of Teacher Education (OTE) is housed in the School of Education, however teacher licensure programs include majors in other schools including off campus programs in teacher education. The Coordinator has responsibilities related to clinical experiences and program completion for all initial teaching licensure programs. The start date of the 9-month academic appointment is August 16, 2021.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluate potential school placement sites for suitability; assigns candidates to pre-student teaching and student teaching placements
  2. Maintain a current data base of clinical sites, cooperating teachers, school administrators, and program graduates
  3. Prepare clinical placement and candidate data reports for OTE Director
  4. Monitor and track teacher candidates' progression through their clinical preparation courses/placements
  5. Serve on alternate admissions and appeals committees
  6. Plan and conduct appropriate orientation for teacher candidates
  7. Notify candidates of appropriate sections of EDUC courses for registering through Banner
  8. Serve as a liaison between the OTE partner school districts for matters related to candidates' pre-student teaching clinical and student teaching placements and experiences.
  9. Work collaboratively with OTE faculty and staff to address issues with candidates, clinical sites and cooperating professionals related to clinical practice
  10. Collect and monitor student teaching clearance documents and transmit them to K-12 school partner sites
  11. Confirm eligibility for graduation and licensure in each candidate's Degree Works audit
  12. Support the Director, Clinical Supervisors, and EDUC faculty in their roles
  13. Serve on search and other committees as appropriate
  14. Represent the Director at meetings, conferences and state meetings when appropriate
  15. Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures for the unit
  16. Facilitate and monitor catalog changes for the unit and all licensure programs
  17. Prepare reports for the OTE
  18. Coordinate events, seminars, workshops, etc. related to the OTE
  19. Assist in developing and attend various events to support recruitment and retention of potential teacher candidates
  20. Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in education or related field
  2. Five or more years of experience in K-12 classroom teaching
  3. Excellent communication and organization skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Two years of experience at a college or university level, as K-12 school administrator, or academic advisor
  2. Experience with database applications
  3. Involvement in successful collaborative activities or projects
  4. Involvement in a variety of related school, university, or community roles
  5. Ability to maintain a record system associated with professional education experiences
  6. Knowledge of local school organizations and locations
  7. Valid Illinois teaching license (may be inactive status)
