The Mathematics and Statistics Department is seeking one term faculty position, at rank of instructor or assistant professor, determined by qualifications. This is a non-tenure-track appointment for one year, with possible extension as needed by the department. Master's Degree required for Instructor (9404), and PhD. for Assistant Professor (9403).
Duties:
Teaching and Advising: (approximately 90%)
- For full-time, teach the equivalent of three courses per semester (9-15 credits).
- Demonstrate a high command of relevant subject matter
- Have well-organized course plans
- Deliver high-quality teaching to students
- Work with colleagues to deliver consistent course experiences, including topics covered and depth of coverage
- Maintain a consistent and positive teaching evaluation record
Possible course assignments include:
- STAT 1411 - Introduction to Statistics
- STAT 2411 - Statistical Methods
- STAT 3411 - Engineering Statistics
- STAT 3611 - Introduction to Probability and Statistics
- STAT 3612 - Introduction to Probability and Statistics II
- STAT 5515-- Multivariate Statistics
- STAT 5572-- Statistical Inference
Service: (approximately 10%)
- Participate in meetings, committees, and other service or outreach activities.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD. from a regionally accredited university in mathematics or statistics or relevant field (9403) or Master's Degree (9404)
- One year of relevant teaching experience at the college level (graduate TA experience acceptable)
- Effective written and oral communication skills appropriate to the position
- Experience in using technology for teaching
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of relevant college-level teaching experience or professional experience in a relevant field
- Experience in a variety of teaching methods, including lecture, active learning, discussion, and laboratory settings
- Expertise using technology for teaching
- Evidence of the ability to work effectively with diverse groups
The Mathematics and Statistics Department has approximately 200 undergraduate and 20 master students. It has 27 faculty and 2 staff members serving the department. UMD is a comprehensive regional University overlooking Lake Superior.
