The Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics (PMB) in the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, USU invites highly qualified candidates to apply for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure eligible track). The Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics, one of the nation's largest, is comprised of five postgraduate divisions (Global Public Health, Environmental and Occupational Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Health Services Administration, and Social and Behavioral Sciences as well as two medical residency programs (General Preventive Medicine and Environment and Occupational Medicine). The Department has more than 50 full-time faculty and over 200 additional adjunct faculty engaged in a wide variety of research projects relevant to public health. The Division and the Department have research relationships with other schools within the University, other academic institutions around the world, other DoD Centers of Excellence, and the National Institutes of Health. PMB is responsible for providing a comprehensive education appropriate to the training of medical students and public health graduate students, postgraduate fellows, residents, and other personnel as required. The Department is also responsible for the conduct of scientific research in current areas of health interest and the professional exchange of findings.

Duties: The incumbent will serve as an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics (PMB), Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and as such is responsible for teaching, research, and administrative assignments.

He/she will develop, direct, and teach graduate courses related to the social and behavioral aspects of public health, prepare and present lectures and other instructional activities in his or her area of expertise; tutor medical, graduate, and doctoral students in individual projects and directed studies; review and evaluate student performance in courses, directed studies, and Masters of Public Health (MPH) projects and advise both masters and doctoral level students on their research, and program progression.

Additional responsibilities include but aren't limited to: planning, implementing, and interpreting research into social and behavioral aspects of public health; writing and editing scientific reports for peer-reviewed publication; serving on departmental and university committees and providing consultation to other university departments and other DoD or federal agencies in areas that are relevant to his or her expertise.

Qualification Requirements: The incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of a doctoral degree in health behavior/health education (HB/HE), or the Social and Behavioral Sciences from an accredited School of Public Health or Public Health Program; plus evidence of peer recognized scholarship (e.g., publication in scientific journals, presentation at scientific meetings).

Positions Requires: The successful candidate must be academically qualified for a faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in accordance with USUHS academic guidelines.

The following experience/knowledge is highly desirable; experience teaching graduate students in public health, advising, and evaluating students and the ability to attract external research funding.
