Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

The Term Assistant Professor will demonstrate through teaching, service, and public engagement the richness of diversity in learning experiences and integrate multicultural approaches and perspectives into instructional methods and research. They will coordinate the Master of Education in Educational Leadership and the Post-Master's Certificate in Educational Leadership programs, teach graduate courses in educational leadership, work with doctoral students on capstones and dissertations, and advise/supervise/mentor students. The professor will also engage in service to the department, school, university, surrounding community, and national/international professional organizations.

Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.) Coordinate the Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Post-Master's Certificate in Educational Leadership programs

Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in educational leadership or related field
  • School, District, or Central Office Leadership experience in the K12 setting
  • Experiences facilitating and/or leading adult learning
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Strong facilitation and problem solving skills
  • Strong and applied commitment to diversity, equity, and access as they relate to educational leadership, policy, and systems improvement
  • Ability to build and leverage meaningful cross-sector partnerships with local school divisions for purpose of educating and preparing leaders who advocate for social justice and lead communities of learning and continual improvement
  • Experience with innovative programming around leadership for social justice
  • Leadership experience related to or within urban settings with individuals in our communities who have been historically marginalized, and done from a culturally responsive and antiracist lens
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in advancing access, equity, and quality education for learners from historically marginalized and underrepresented minority populations living in poverty and/or the educators that serve them
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU and community member at large
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with master and doctoral students including advising and/or chairing dissertations/capstones and serving on committees
  • Evidence of successful teaching at the graduate level
  • Potential for developing programs for interdisciplinary settings
  • Experience with online delivery of instruction
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: K12 leadership; leadership development; school law; fiscal and human resource management; educational equity; and/or education policy
  • Experiences that inform worldviews and/or perspectives about minority group status, to include race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and disability
  • Evidence of collaborations with research centers and institutes and/or with community agencies
