The University of Southern Maine is looking for motivated individuals to join our Custodial team! We are currently accepting applications for a 3rd shift Custodial Facilities Maintenance Worker in our Facilities Management department on the USM Portland campus!

In addition to a 40 hour work week, all full-time employees are eligible for free tuition for credit courses including graduate school and Maine Law and eligible dependents receive 50% partial tuition waivers.

Employees in this classification are responsible for maintaining cleanliness, orderliness, appearance and sanitation of University campus facilities in accordance with CDC and internal guidelines. This may include University grounds, roads, walks and buildings. This position requires self-direction and autonomy. This is an essential position with the expectation that you report to work on snow/storm days and other days when campus is closed.

Essential Job Functions (includes but not limited to):

• Cleans fixtures, furnishings and facilities in and around campus buildings in accordance with Facilities Management's standard cleaning program. Work may occasionally involve cleaning up human waste.
• Operates a variety of cleaning equipment, uses cleaning chemicals and materials to maintain the cleanliness of assigned area(s).
• Performs heavy lifting in the removal of trash, moves furniture and equipment to perform cleaning tasks.
• Climbs ladders up to 4 feet to perform necessary cleaning.
• Unlocks and secures buildings as required.
• Reports maintenance issues and equipment failures as appropriate.
• Maintains inventory levels within assigned area(s).
• Typically requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, grasping, standing, and repetitive motions.
• Works effectively and cooperatively with members of the Facilities Management staff, University administration, the campus community, and external clients and customers.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
• Effective communication skills
• Proven ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision and follow verbal or written instructions
• Previous experience operating or proven ability to learn how to operate custodial cleaning equipment, including but not limited to floor buffers, burnishers and extractors
• With or without reasonable accommodation, must be capable of lifting and carrying equipment and materials up to 50 pounds frequently and/or exert 20 pounds of force to move objects; and must be capable of standing for long periods of time and flexible enough for bending and reaching

Other Information:

The work schedule is Sunday through Thursday, 9:00pm to 5:00am.

Pay is $12.75/hr (+$0.40 shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shift) and offers a highly competitive benefits package that includes vacation, sick and holiday pay, health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, short and long term disability insurance, a tuition waiver program for employees and their spouse or dependent child(ren), a 403(b) retirement plan and more.   This position is currently eligible for $18.23/hr Portland Emergency wages while we await a final Court action on the Act to Increase the Minimum Wage in Portland or the Governor lifts the State of Civil Emergency.
