OverviewThe Professorial faculty shall consist of individuals who have been appointed to the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.
A faculty member in School of Nursing is expected to fulfill teaching, service and scholarship responsibilities
Faculty members assume the responsibility of developing, recommending, and executing the curriculum and all approved policies of instruction. A faculty member in the School of Nursing is responsible for the delivery of a portion of the curriculum for which he/she has suitable education and experience which may include oversight of students in clinical settings. He/she will follow the curriculum as designed and collaborate with key individuals as needed. He/she is expected to assist the University and School of Nursing in meeting academic or related committee responsibilities. All of these duties require that the faculty member remain current in practice through Nursing Science participation in professional development activities.
1. Teaching
1.1. Responsible for all aspects of teaching for assigned courses
1.1.1. Follow approved curriculum while deliver content for assigned courses.
1.1.2. Provide feedback to the Curriculum Committees.
1.1.3. Supervise students in clinical settings
1.1.4. Evaluate student progress in lecture, lab, and clinical settings through appropriate evaluation methods
1.1.5. Implement and comply with all TUN/ SON policies
1.2. Curriculum Development
1.2.1. Participate in the ongoing curriculum review
1.2.2. Complete course report forms at the end of each semester.
1.3. Education Environment
1.3.1. Promote an appropriate atmosphere for student education and be responsive to student needs
1.3.2. Report student progress to appropriate personnel
1.3.3. Prepare reports on student progress for faculty meetings
1.3.4. Facilitate student learning through provision of office hours and advisement
1.3.5. Promote student learning and facilitate a learning environment
2. University Obligations
2.1. Service
2.1.1. Serve on committees within the School of Nursing (SON), Touro University Nevada (TUN) and the community at large.
2.1.2. Function as student advisors to assigned group of students
2.1.3. Attend graduation, school, college, and student functions as required
2.1.4. Complete student status forms when appropriate
2.1.5. Implement TUN and SON approved policies as appropriate
2.1.6. Provide reports, budgetary information, and other documents, as requested by Directors, and Deans
2.1.7. Other duties may be assigned.
2.2. Scholarship
2.2.1. Maintain academic and clinical expertise through scholarship activities
2.3. Actively engages in the advancement of the University
2.3.1. Builds collaborative partnership opportunities across and among various entities participating in networking opportunities, [internal and external partners, other colleges and universities, hospitals, local organizations, societies, etc.] promoting relationships with the University.
2.3.2. Promotes and represents the University at local, state, and national events (attending and participating in conferences, serving as a speaker/presenter, networking with colleagues to foster program development, participating in various community opportunities, etc.)
2.3.3. Refers to and coordinates in advance with the Office of Advancement/Public Relations team on all media contacts, communications, and/or interactions to include message, promotion, etc. in which asked to serve as an official representative, content expert, or spokesperson on behalf of the University.
2.3.4. Coordination in advance with the Office of Advancement on all Touro related legislative issues to include contact with the national, state, and local government officials, whether in official University capacity or with a national, state or local organization.
2.3.5. Serves on various committees and teams within the University as assigned (attending meetings, contributing to discussions, sharing/exchanging information, and leading constituents toward goal attainment) to include advising and mentoring (Students, clubs, campus organizations).
2.3.6. Contributes to University's compliance with and in the development of required documentation as related to accreditation of all programs to which departmental content is contributed. (faculty adequacy model, gathering data, self-assessment, peer review, providing input/feedback, etc.) aiding in the attainment of academic compliance.
2.3.7. Is knowledgeable of and remains in compliance with all institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the Faculty Handbook for Touro University Nevada.
2.4. Contributes to team efforts by performing other duties as needed/assigned.
Education:
Doctorate in nursing required
Current Registered Nurse in Nevada
Experience:
Two years of clinical nursing experience
Previous education experience preferred
Skills & Abilities:
Strong knowledge base in specialty area(s)
A demonstrated ability and desire to teach
Ability to work collaboratively
Strong interpersonal skills and the enthusiasm and motivation to contribute to the growth and development of the basic science department of the School of Nursing and the university
Ability to apply nursing science in the clinical setting
