The Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) Department at Iowa State University (ISU) seeks candidates for a full-time teaching professor position (term faculty) in construction engineering. For details on position requirements and preferences go to or

The successful candidate is envisioned to be an enthusiastic educator who is able to use an appropriate mix of traditional and innovative approaches, such as online, project-based, active, and asynchronous learning, to deliver course material. The teaching professor position will be responsible for coordinating and teaching undergraduate portions of the general professional elements, including scheduling, project management, and capstone, of the construction engineering program. They will teach courses at the undergraduate level and advise undergraduate students. Candidates should have strong communication skills, share our commitment to enhancing excellence through diversity and inclusion and exhibit the potential for long term leadership in supporting the mission of the department, college, and university. The position is a unique opportunity to incorporate engineering management and design instruction and experience in the construction engineering curriculum. 

This 9-month position is for a 3-year term with potential for renewal. There may be opportunities for the candidate to supplement the 9-month salary with additional teaching in the summer semester or with research funding. Term Faculty hold limited term, full, or part-time renewable appointments that are not eligible for tenure, but have potential to be reviewed for advancement into senior ranks.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or related discipline and 5 years of relevant work experience.


  • Masters degree in engineering or related discipline and 3 years of relevant work experience.


  • Doctoral degree in engineering or related discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Construction industry experience
  • PE in Civil, Construction, or similar area, or the ability to obtain licensure within 12 months of start date
  • PhD and 2 years of applicable professional experience

About the Department

Construction Engineering at Iowa State University is an ABET accredited program and a national leader in construction education. The construction engineering program has strong industry and academic support. The CCEE Department offers B.S. degree programs in civil engineering, civil engineering with environmental emphasis, construction engineering, and environmental engineering plus M.S., MEng, and Ph.D. graduate degree programs in civil engineering and maintains externally funded research of approximately $17.7 million annually. The department employs 48 faculty members. CCEE is committed to diversity among faculty, staff and students who can enrich University objectives in the areas of research, teaching and service. Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering undergraduate programs have over 590 and 270 students respectively. Our graduate program has approximately 150 students.
