Assistant Professor of Game Art

Film, Animation and Video Arts of Cornish College of the Arts is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Game Art. This position requires someone who can provide visionary leadership in a growing BFA program, develop innovative curriculum, foster professional and community partnerships that advance the program, facilitate collaborations across visual arts departments and bring increasing recognition to Film, Animation and Video Arts at Cornish.

The College offers majors in the performing arts (Theater, Dance, Music, Performance Production) as well as the visual arts (Animation, Art, Design, Film, Game Art, Interaction Design, Illustration, Interior Architecture). Game Art begins as a new major in the Fall of 2021 and we are committed to building our core faculty in that field.

The mission of Cornish is to provide students aspiring to become practicing artists with an educational program of the highest possible quality, in an environment that nurtures creativity and intellectual curiosity, while preparing them to contribute to society as artists, citizens, and innovators. Cornish realizes this mission by offering baccalaureate studies in the performing and visual arts and by serving as a focal point in the community for public presentation, artistic criticism, participation and discussion of the arts.

Position Summary

Teaching

• Teaches three courses per semester (or eighteen credits per year) and maintains regular office hours
• Instructs, manages, and supervises students in classrooms through demonstrations, discussions, visual aids, field trips, individualized instruction, and lectures
• Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study based on program learning outcomes
• Mentors Game Art students in obtaining their career goals while exposing them to other opportunities that they may not have considered
• Assists students in course scheduling
• Assists Academic Advisors, Chairs, and other faculty in maintaining an exceptional game program with a positive learning environment

Service

• Participates in shared governance activities including college and department committees
• Participates in Admissions recruitment events such as portfolio days, student registration, CCA Open House, New Student Events, and assists with transcript/portfolio evaluation of transfer students
• Works with Chair and Faculty in development of departmental policies, curriculum content, instructional standards, and evaluation methods
• Contributes to the positive and inclusive culture of the program and college

Minimum Requirements

• BFA or formal training and teaching experience in Game Art production and design
• Demonstrate an active peer-reviewed, distribution and/or exhibition record
• Willingness to participate in and lead course and curriculum design efforts
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in undergraduate teaching and mentorship
• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
• At least 3 years' teaching at a college level
• Experience with instructional technologies, particularly the use of Canvas as learning management system

Preferred Qualifications

• MFA or formal training and teaching experience in Game Art production and design
• Five or more years of experience teaching at a college level
• Experience working within a Film, Animation and Video Arts department (or related department)
