Date of Hire
Houghton College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in the Department of Education at the assistant or associate level starting in the fall of 2021. Specific teaching assignments will depend on how the candidate's expertise, interests, and experiences intersect with department needs.
The successful candidate would teach undergraduate courses in education, including foundational courses (e.g. Educating Exceptional Learners, Educational Psychology, and/or Education and American Culture) and upper-level methods courses (e.g. Math Methods, Science Methods, and/or Social Studies Methods) in a face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid format that are clearly linked with field experience opportunities. Responsibilities will include teaching 3-4 courses per semester, advising, mentoring of student teachers, departmental collaboration, service, scholarship, enhancing our online offerings, and building educational partnerships. Depending on interest and expertise, teaching responsibilities could include graduate-level courses.
Candidates must have teaching experience and scholarship in education. A terminal degree in the field of Education is required at the time of hiring. In addition, candidates must demonstrate interest and willingness to support the college's online offerings and mentor undergraduate students. Other vital qualities include a mature Christian faith, strong communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to excellence and creativity in undergraduate teaching, and an ability to integrate Christian faith into their teaching. Also required is an ability to help students form respectful attitudes and interactions with people who differ in abilities, attitudes, and cultural experiences, with sensitivity to factors that affect our own assessment of others.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching online and those who hold current teaching credentials. In addition, we will prioritize applicants who have experience teaching in inclusive classrooms and are also qualified to teach, math, science or social studies methods courses.
We encourage applications from members of historically underrepresented groups. All qualified applicants will receive equal consideration regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or veteran status.
Application review will begin immediately and the position will remain open until filled.

Candidates who meet these qualifications will be required to submit a recent teaching sample video as part of the process of being considered for an interview. The committee will provide specific instructions for submitting videos to qualifying candidates later in the process.
