Position Summary

The University of St. Francis, a Catholic, Franciscan institution in Joliet, Illinois, invites applications for a full-time Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor of Graduate Nursing.

This full-time faculty position will be available in August 2021, and it could be tenure-track depending on qualifications.

The Leach College of Nursing offers CCNE accredited undergraduate and graduate programs as well as a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. We serve traditional aged and adult students through a variety of learning formats.

The university is located in a residential neighborhood 35 miles southwest of Chicago with satellite locations in downtown Joliet, IL and Albuquerque, NM. The surrounding Chicagoland area offers robust park and recreation resources, major league sports, cultural arts, museums, festivals, shopping, restaurants, and two major airports.

Faculty members whose assignments are to classroom and practicum instruction are collectively responsible for curriculum design, planning, implementation and evaluation, and for the development and implementation of specific courses offerings in the curriculum/clinical.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Participate in and promote a culture of continuing quality improvement
  • Teach 24 credit hours per year (assistant/associate professor) or 30 credit hours per year (teaching instructor)
  • Advise/Counsel students
  • Provide service to the University, Leach College of Nursing (LCON) and the community
  • Participate in professional programs and attends workshops and/or classes for personal enrichment
  • Participate in College projects in area of expertise and engage in scholarship
  • Willingness to teach across all programs, doctoral, graduate or undergraduate programs as education, expertise, and workload allow
Minimum Requirements
  • Board-certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and/or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)/APN;
  • Valid Illinois RN License;
  • Master's Degree in Nursing (Instructor)
  • DNP or Ph.D. (Assistant/Associate Professor)
  • Experience as a nurse educator in academia with experience in both didactic and clinical settings;
  • Strong communication and customer service skills and the ability to work in a complex environment;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with LCON department faculty and staff, agency representatives and staff to ensure high quality clinical education experiences;
  • Ability to understand nursing clinical education requirements in accordance with AACN Standards and Illinois Board of Nursing requirements;
  • Submission of a plan for pursuit of doctoral degree in Nursing or related field from a regionally accredited institution, if applicable;
  • Willingness to uphold and fulfill the mission, vision, values, and traditions of the University of St. Francis; and
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
Preferred Requirements
  • Ph.D. or DNP
  • Experience teaching online, particularly with Canvas online delivery system; and
  • Experience with CCNE, outcomes-based assessment practices, curriculum development, technology integration.
Hours/Shift/Work Schedule

This is a full-time, nine-month contract position, August - May each year. We offer a competitive compensation and benefit package. Variable hours, with online courses. May have day/evening/night/weekend courses and/or site visits; workload includes some summer courses.

Physical Requirements of Position

Work is performed in office, classroom and clinical settings and in the community with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This is sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
