Job Description

Classification Title:

Administrative Title:

Program Director

Job Description:

The University of Central Florida (UCF)/HCA Healthcare Graduate Medical Education (GME) consortium is seeking a Designated Institutional Official (DIO) to lead a rapidly expanding number of residency and fellowship programs. The UCF/HCA consortium is a community partnership with 28 ACGME-accredited programs in greater Orlando, Ocala, Gainesville, and Pensacola, Florida with future expansion planned throughout Florida. This role is responsible for facilitating an integrated approach between the partners to provide an inclusive learning environment for our residents and fellows. The DIO will be employed by the University of Central Florida and report to the UCF/HCA Consortium Executive Board (CEB), and will hold an appropriate faculty title in the relevant College of Medicine (COM) department. This position will be a non-tenured position at the associate professor of medicine or professor of medicine rank.

Through efforts such as this UCF/HCA consortium, HCA Healthcare has become the largest sponsor of GME in the United States and is working to create more opportunities for medical school graduates to get the training they need. Although the numbers change on a weekly basis, there are approximately 3,400 residents and fellows in over 250 programs in 17 states with an opportunity to initiate growth through scale, standardization, and best shared practices over the coming years.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversight for, and assure continued accreditation of, all ACGME residency and fellowship programs;
  • Close monitoring of program quality and any deficiencies: assure compliance with ACGME institutional and program reporting requirements and take steps to address and improve academic quality of all ACGME programs;
  • Chair the Graduate Medical Education (GME) committee, carrying out and documenting all GME committee responsibilities required by the ACGME;
  • Review and update GME policies in conjunction with UCF and HCA leadership and provide for appropriate policy implementation;
  • All other responsibilities required of a DIO by the ACGME;
  • Work in collaboration with HCA leadership to review all ACGME application materials and prepare for programmatic and institutional site visits;
  • Regular site visits (averaging once/month) to include meeting with program directors and local GME staff;
  • Lead the consortium office GME staff;
