Job Description


Black Hills State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position in Organismal Biology beginning August 2021.

The successful candidate will teach General Education and majors courses such as: Biology Survey, Animal Behavior, and courses in an area of specialization such as Entomology or Mammalogy. Primary responsibilities include successful teaching and advising, participation in student support and service activities in the School of Natural Sciences, a research program including student opportunities, and alignment with the scientific initiatives at BHSU.

  • A PhD in Biology, or closely related field, required by start date.

The School of Natural Sciences at Black Hills State University is a vibrant, growing division with approximately 23 faculty members in biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental physical science. Faculty emphasize undergraduate teaching and advising, and conduct research involving students in several well-equipped laboratories on campus, in addition to the Black Hills State University Underground Campus (BHUC) at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, SD. The Center for the Conservation of Biological Resources is a shared research laboratory containing research space and commonly used equipment required for genetics and genomics research. WestCore is a Genetics/Genomics sequencing core facility that provides services including NextGen genome, transcriptome, and Sanger sequencing, genotyping, and quantitative real-time PCR services; WestCore also houses a cell culture area and an RNA isolation room. The BHUC houses Sanford Lab's low-background counting facility, a class-1,000 cleanroom, and an adjoining workspace available for use in a variety of disciplines. Managed by BHSU, the underground campus partners with groups around the globe to create unique opportunities for collaborative research in physics, chemistry, biology and geophysics.
