Position Summary:

The Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Oboe (non-tenure track; 12 months) with an administrative assignment as Operations Coordinator for the Bass School of Music and School Theatre.

Essential Duties:

Demonstrate an attitude and behavior that reflects the mission and core values of the School of Music, School of Theatre, and the University.

Teaching, scholarship and service: Teach graduate and undergraduate applied oboe to majors and non-majors. Participate in the department's assessment program and in student retention efforts for the department and the university, advise students, and participate in faculty meetings and other university service endeavors. Effective teaching, scholarship and service are required for promotion.

Operations coordination: Coordinate the operations of the Bass School of Music and the School of Theatre. This includes but not limited to maintain the comprehensive schedule (classes, productions, performances, recitals, and special events), schedule and negotiate agreements for the contract use of School of Music facilities, manage and coordinate guest artist events, act as liaison to the university department for special events, and supervise student staff.

Required Skills

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs including Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures of the Bass School of Music and the university. Collegiality, professional conduct, and team work are required of all faculty.
  • Ability to work varied hours as required by course schedules and event/facility support needs.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse tasks, and to work with diverse groups of students and faculty.

Required Education: A Master of Music; a terminal degree is required for promotion.

Required Experience: Experience in teaching applied music courses at the collegiate level. Experience in coordinating administrative activities to include event and facility management.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens.
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus.
  • Standard office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Attendance at evening and weekend events may be required.
  • Incumbent will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines.
