DEPARTMENT CHAIR, Civil, Coastal and Environmental Engineering. The University of South Alabama invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Civil, Coastal and Environmental Engineering at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor. The expected start date is August 15, 2021. Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. The Chair is expected to provide strategic vision and leadership to the Department and to engage in teaching, research, and scholarship. Successful candidates must show accomplished funded-research activity and scholarship; a commitment to excellence in teaching and research; exceptional verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated leadership ability; and a desire and ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines, colleges, and administrative structures.
The Civil, Coastal and Environmental Engineering Department provides an ABET-accredited BSCE program, an MSCE program, and participates in the doctoral program for Systems Engineering. Enrollment in the undergraduate and graduate programs is in excess of 200 students. The Department is housed in Shelby Hall, a 155,000 sq.ft. state-of-the-art Engineering and Computing Sciences building, and has active research programs in a variety of areas including deep pile foundations, transportation safety, coastal engineering, and decentralized wastewater treatment. The US Army Corps of Engineers District Office, utilities, State agencies, and numerous consulting engineering firms in the local area offer opportunities for industrial/academic collaborations and student intern support. The College of Engineering has four departments: Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Civil, Coastal & Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering.
