Job Description


The School of Journalism at the University of Montana is taking applications through April 30, 2021 for the spring 2022 T. Anthony Pollner Distinguished Professorship.

The focus of the spring 2022 professorship is any of the following specializations: visual storytelling, online journalism, audio storytelling, database journalism and infographics, multimedia reporting or the business of journalism.

Applicants should have a national reputation in journalism and a keen interest in mentoring aspiring journalists. The successful candidate will teach a course relating to his or her specialization; work with the staff of the student newspaper, the Montana Kaimin; and give a workshop on campus during the school’s annual High School Journalism Day.

Recent Pollner professors have included Geoff McGhee, award-winning data and multimedia reporter for the New York Times, High Country News and others; Tammy Kim, labor reporter and opinion writer for the New York Times, Al Jazeera and the New Yorker; “Bundyville” podcast producer and freelance reporter Leah Sottile; and former editor-in-chief of National Geographic, Chris Johns. Previous Pollner professors include Ben Montgomery, Tampa Bay Times investigative reporter and author; Hank Stuever, television critic at the Washington Post; Chris Jones, a two-time National Magazine Award recipient, and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Eli Saslow, Sally Stapleton, Tamara Jones, John Woestendiek and Maurice Possley.

The stipend is $42,000
