The Psychology Department at the University of Southern Maine is welcoming applications fill a full time Lecturer position in Psychology with a specialization in Physiological Psychology. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence in their discipline to join a team of faculty in a growing department with a vibrant student body and warm community. In addition to teaching, the faculty member will provide formal academic advising to Psychology majors.
The faculty member will design and teach a mix of the following courses: Introduction to Psychology, Statistics in Psychology, Experimental Methodology Lecture/Lab, and Physiological Psychology, in addition to other courses in alignment with the candidate's expertise (e.g., Sensation and Perception and Drugs, Mind, and Behavior). We are especially interested in applicants who can demonstrate their direct contributions to students' academic success and persistence through active and engaged learning, mentoring, and advising. The teaching load for this position is 4 courses per semester.
Primary duties will include, but are not limited to, undergraduate teaching in psychological science, effective student advising/mentoring, and service to the department, university, community, and discipline. The successful candidate may also have opportunities to teach courses that satisfy CORE requirements. The Department is housed within the College of Science, Technology, and Health. Department offices are located on the Portland campus where the majority of courses are held, but courses may be offered on any USM campus or online, depending upon faculty availability and interest, among other factors.
