The University of Southern Maine's Department of Linguistics seeks applicants for part-time instructor positions to teach 100- to 400-level courses. The courses include the following categories:

• General linguistics (LIN 185: Introduction to Linguistics, LIN 311: Phonetics, LIN 312: Phonology and Morphology, LIN 313: Syntax, LIN 316: Language Variation, LIN 201: Language acquisition, LIN 310: Signs of Language in the Brain, LIN 317: Two Languages, One Mind, LIN 490: Introduction to Language Research)
• Foundation courses for students who plan on pursuing speech/language pathology or audiology as a career (LIN 211: Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanisms, LIN 212: Speech Science, LIN 213: Introduction to Audiology)

The Department of Linguistics is an undergraduate program within the College of Science, Technology and Health. Linguistics students can major in general linguistics or in a number of concentrations. Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. In addition, USM employees, have access to the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center(s) with their USM Card. USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD), the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Qualifications:

Required: For general linguistics courses: Master's degree in Linguistics or Ph.D. in Linguistics. For speech/language pathology foundation courses: Master's degree or doctorate in Speech/Language Pathology or Audiology.

Preferred for both course categories: Experience teaching courses at the undergraduate level.
