Position Description
Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Assistant Vice President of Student Financial Services (AVP) leads a team of 24 and directly supervises three associate directors focused on Seattle University's Student Financial Services (SFS) activities including:financial aid, student accounts and billing, VA benefits administration and student employment; managing student financial aid and collection of tuition, room, board, and fees. The AVP will serve as a senior member of the Enrollment Services Leadership Team and contribute to the achievement of key enrollment outcomes.

The AVP must be a strategic thinker and skilled at developing positive connections across campus including students, university leadership, deans, faculty, and staff. The AVP must possess thorough knowledge of financial aid policies, processes and regulations, as well as experience with the application of current and emerging technologies related to financial aid. The AVP is responsible for developing and maintaining forward-facing strategies in response to an everchanging financial aid landscape.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversees scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study programs from federal, state, university, and other sources.

Monitors and maintains the compliance with changing federal and state regulations on student aid programs.

Responsible for ensuring fiscal accountability in fund management, disbursement and recovery of funds, compliance and audits, and technology and information systems.

Establishes guidelines for effective and efficient distribution of aid consistent with the institution's enrollment and budget goals.

Collaboratively works with a broad array of offices including Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions, Registrar, Information Technology, Institutional Research, Finance, Controller, Athletics, Career Services, Student Development,

Student Academic Engagement and University Advancement.

Manages an external firm and the collaboration with Enrollment Services Leadership colleagues to develop the institutional financial aid and enrollment model and supports the university's educational mission to serve the needs of a diverse student population.

Provides leadership on various working groups dedicated to streamlining and improving policies and procedures across function areas of the University and to support student success throughout the academic year.

Ensures a high level of customer service through staff training, effective assessment and utilization of technology, process and policy development, and proactive communications.

Represents the university on federal, state, NCAA, and institutional committees, and serves as the spokesperson for SFS in communicating regularly with prospective and current students, parents, and other internal/external stakeholder groups as related to financial aid and student accounts.

Responsible for managing the productivity, effectiveness, and development of direct reports and the SFS department.




Preferred and Required Qualifications

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and ten years of significant management and leadership experience in financial aid are required.

The successful candidate must also demonstrate:
Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and compliance/audit expectations
Exceptional leadership ability to create, develop and sustain effective working groups.
Fiscal accountability and experience planning and managing complex budgets
An understanding of contemporary best practices in financial aid and student account management with the ability to anticipate and respond to shifts in the financial aid landscape.
Sound judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential situations
Ability to work collaboratively with numerous campus partners/stakeholders
Deep knowledge of technology and its application to enhance financial aid and student account processes
Leadership in assessment, strategic planning, change management and fostering technology competency
Demonstrate both strong financial and analytical acumen but also a dedication to providing excellent student service throughout the student life cycle

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree.
