Job Description




Adler University, Vancouver Campus is currently looking for Adjunct instructors to teach in a variety of areas, including: Public Sector Governance; Public Policy Analysis; Economy and Economic Analysis; Social Program Planning and Implementation; Principles of Community Psychology; Foundations of Community Development; Advocacy Strategy and Tactics for Social Change; and Ethics, Diversity and Socially Responsible Practice.

Under the general guidance of the Program Director, the Adjunct Faculty member leverages industry knowledge and best practices to promote the mission and vision of the Masters in Public Policy and Public Administration Department and the institution. Supports culture development and management efforts. The Adjunct Faculty member duties include teaching in the Public Policy and Administration program (MPPA), co-supervising or serving as Second Reader of capstone projects, and effectively mentoring graduate students in the MPPA program. Adjunct Faculty hold expertise and experience in the areas of public policy, public administration or a related field that allows for teaching within the MPPA program.


  • A Master's in Public Policy, Public Administration, or a related field with extensive professional work experience in areas that allow for teaching within the MPPA program  is required. A Doctorate in Public Policy, Public Administration, or a related field that allows for teaching within the MPPA program, is preferred. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of public policy related experience is required
  • Specialized training or expertise in applied research in public and not-for-profit settings, public policy analysis, public sector governance (including indigenous governance structures and mechanisms), economic analysis, and/or program design, implementation and evaluation, preferred.

  • Ability to consistently identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations based on observations

  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and visioning acumen
  • Ability to proactively identify challenges and barriers to stated objective and employ assistance in addressing these
  • Strong collaboration acumen and abilities
  • Demonstration of Emotional Intelligence and professional maturity
  • Proficient and functional knowledge of MS Office (Work, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook)
  • Strong research acumen and abilities
  • Strong communication acumen including written, oral, and listening



Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  •  Teaching in the Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) program, (co-) supervising Capstone projects, and effectively mentoring graduate students.
  • Teach courses in any of the following areas: applied research, public sector governance (including indigenous governance structures and mechanisms), applied public policy and/or economic analysis, program design, implementation and evaluation, public sector leadership and management, advocacy strategy, community development, and/or ethics, diversity and socially responsible practice.
  • Support the Program Director in SLOAP reporting.
  • Support and model the University's mission and values of: social interest, compassion, justice, respect for the individual, honor diversity and difference, intellectual rigor, optimism and collaboration
  • Other duties as assigned.


COVID-19 considerations: The health and safety of our staff/faculty and their families, as well as our stakeholders, potential candidates, and the communities we serve, are of the utmost importance. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this role will temporarily be performed remotely. The successful candidate will train and work from home until such time as it is determined that role will return to the campus full-time.
