Position Description

Position Purpose:

The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the overall process and operations of the Integrity Formation program and the Dean of Students. This position will largely be responsible for investigation and resolution of integrity formation cases. Integrity formation meetings support campus climate and student retention in two critical ways. For students accused of engaging in violations of policy, this role uses developmental and trauma-informed practices to support their continued experience at the University. By responding to these concerns, the Assistant Director supports and enhances an academically curious and rigorous environment by ensuring that our learning environments are conducive to student retention. The role will also provide consultative support to faculty and staff working with students of concern or students who have allegedly violated the Code of Student Conduct. These efforts further support student, faculty, and staff retention by ensuring that community members are aware of the resources available to help them in their experiences and responding to their concerns.

This position will assist in connecting students to campus resources for support. Under the direction of the Dean of Students, this position will operationalize a conflict resolution program for students expressing concerns and/or who are seeking alternative resolution to integrity formation matters. This position may assist in providing education and outreach support to employees and students at Seattle University. This program will further support student, faculty, and staff retention by providing a non-adjudicative option for supporting the resolution of conflicts which, when left unaddressed, impacts individual decisions to remain at the University.

Position Complexities:

This position requires knowledge of the trends in the field of student conduct along with knowledge of student development theory and practice as applied to student conduct administration. This position interacts with a variety of campus partners including faculty, staff and students. Requires a high level of computer competency as well as interpersonal skills. Must be able to manage competing tasks and prioritize work. In collaboration with the Dean of Students, the Assistant Director will create annual reports such as the Clery report. This position requires knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act, and other federal and state impacts on the work of student conduct administration.

Position Dimensions and Impact to the University:

This position will support the mission of the University by assuming responsibility for accurately maintain student records. This position will interact with faculty and staff. This position will have a high degree of student contact, and must be able to interact effectively with a diverse community. The impacts of this position on student, faculty, and staff retention are listed above.

Position Responsibilities:

Integrity Formation meeting and process management (70%)
Case management of CARE cases (20%)
Consultation with campus partners (5%)
Creating and Coordinating conflict resolution program (5%)

• Investigate alleged violations of the Code of Student Conduct through the integrity formation process. Hold and manage meetings using the process and procedures in the Code of Student Conduct. Determine and communicate integrity formation outcomes (sanctions) where appropriate.
• Coordinate the work of other conduct administrators, including staff in Housing & Residence Life and graduate interns, to assign and resolve integrity formation matters.
• At the direction of the Assistant Dean of Students for Student Care and Support, manage a case load of students referred to the CARE team for support.
• As necessary, perform investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct under the University policies for complying with Title IX and the Code of Student Conduct.
• Serve as a resource and support to staff and faculty regarding student and classroom management issues and provide guidance for referring matters for alternative resolution or resolution through the Integrity Formation process. Provide information regarding the Code of Student Conduct, and take the appropriate actions to resolve issues with faculty and staff.
• Evaluate and make suggestions for growth and improvement of the students of concern assessment and support processes using data, tracking and trend analysis under the direction of the Dean of Students.
• Develop and implement training programs and curriculum for employees and students on awareness, reporting and protocols. Develop communication materials, using a variety of media formats to support outreach efforts.
• In conjunction with the Dean of Students, coordinate a conflict resolution program designed to support students experiencing conflict within the campus community.
• Remain current and trained on best practices, emerging strategies and research at the local, state, federal and international levels supporting the reduction of threats to the campus community and connecting students of concern to the supports necessary to enable their success. Includes Title IX, VAWA, NaBITA, harm to self and others rubric, threat assessment, Clery Act, student conduct, applicable local, state and federal laws.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Education, Student Affairs, or Student Development,
• Knowledge of student development theory and ability to translate into practice of student conduct administration, experience adjudicating student conduct violations either in a University level setting or a Residence Life and Housing setting,
• High level of computer competency.
• Demonstrated strong verbal and written skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to develop reports and use data tracking to guide decision making.

Desired Qualifications

• Two to five years of work in a University level Student Conduct Office as a hearing officerf
• Experience working with faculty
• Ability to navigate complex systems
• Experience serving on a Behavioral Intervention Team
• Completed training in Clery Act, Title IX and VAWA.

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
