Student Support Services Academic Specialist - Limited Term

Reporting to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), the Limited Term Student Support Services (SSS) Academic Specialist will coordinate programming and offer academic advising services to foster students' academic success and personal development. This position will work with campus stakeholders to support student retention, progression, and graduation. The Department of Education federally funds the TRIO Student Support Services program, serving 140 students.

The program offers comprehensive support services, including peer tutoring, math, reading, and English instruction skills, academic advising, counseling, career planning, and financial aid application assistance. In addition, the program provides career development that aligns student interests and academic goals to identify career paths and opportunities for cultural and educational enrichment activities. Position continuation is contingent upon reaching assigned goals, successfully meeting all job responsibilities, continuing the grants/availability of grant funding.

This position will require some evening and weekend hours.

Function 1 -
Provide individualized academic advising to students on course selection, degree requirements, academic policies, and resources available for educational support; provide regular outreach to SSS student participants

Function 2 -
Maintain timely and accurate records of student interactions and program participation

Function 3 -
Make referrals to appropriate student support and campus resources

Function 4 -
Assist participants with planning for postgraduate studies and/or employment

Function 5 -
Coordinate the logistics of programs and activities aimed at enhancing SSS student participants¿ success and engagement and enhance program participants' academic, career, and personal development

Function 6 -
Assist in planning special events such as award ceremonies, National TRIO Day, and others SSS activities

Function 7 -
Implement marketing and advertising strategies to promote the SSS program using various channels, including social media, email campaigns, and campus events

Function 8 -
Participate in campus events including, but not limited to, student success workshops, new student orientation, faculty training, welcome events, and preview days

Function 9 -
Cultivate relationships with campus stakeholders to promote SSS participation in program activities

Function 10 -
Other related duties as assigned

4 Year / Bachelor's Degree required in education, counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university

At least three years of relevant experience

At least three years of college academic advising experience
Experience in Federal TRIO, GEAR UP, CAMP, HEP or other grant-funded student success program
Experience planning campus events for various student populations
Experience with BANNER
Experience with Blumen
Experience with the financial aid process
Bilingual
$42,100 - $50,500; Salary offer will be dependent on candidate¿s experience and qualifications, internal equity considerations, budget availability, and salary administration guidelines.

Ability to implement strategies to successfully engage and motivate SSS students, faculty, staff, and administration

Ability to work under minimal direction/supervision to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize duties with appropriate follow-through and fluctuating workloads

Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies

Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and records

Ability to work evenings and weekends

KNOWLEDGE
Working knowledge of higher education processes, practices of administrative organization, and management

Knowledge of trends, issues and best practices relevant to advising and ability to apply the knowledge to develop and improve advising practices and support student success

Knowledge of educational advising strategies, assessment of student learning styles and learning needs, non-cognitive behavior skills needed for student success, and postsecondary education barriers experienced by low-income and first-generation SSS students

Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations

SKILLS
Proficiency in EAB Navigate, 25LIVE

Experience working as part of a team with leadership and effective working relationships

Strong computer/technology, social media, and Microsoft Office software skills, including Degreeworks, D2L, and BANNER

Skills in verbal and written communication.

Skills in interpersonal interactions and relationship building.

Skills in preparing and delivering presentations.
