Position Details

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Natural and Health Sciences at University of Tampa is seeking candidates for a full-time, one-year visiting position at the Assistant Professor level starting in August 2026. The position is renewable for a second year, subject to performance and organizational needs.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a total of 27 contact hours during the 2026-2027 academic year. Contact hours are determined in a 1:1 relationship with in-class hours. The ideal candidate may teach a variety of courses with an emphasis on organic chemistry classroom (lecture) and laboratory courses serving natural and health science majors and possibly other courses in chemistry; the teaching assignment will be made by the department based on student needs and the hire's expertise. Service to the University and professional community and scholarship are encouraged but not required.

The department consists of 31 full-time faculty and academic staff members and more than 240 majors. The department offers eight bachelor's degrees in chemistry, biochemistry, forensic science, and marine chemistry with a total of approximately 40 graduates per academic year from these programs. Majors in chemistry, forensic science and biochemistry are approved by the American Chemical Society and accredited by the Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Education, or a related discipline is required. Teaching experience is preferred.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
