Open Rank Ohio University Cluster Hire in Population Health/Health Disparities
Full Time - Tenure Track - 9 month Faculty
Located at the Athens, Dublin or Cleveland Campuses
Position Summary:
Ohio University, a Carnegie Foundation Research University, is seeking to expand its research related to community, public and population health to improve the understanding of social determinants of health and health disparities.
We are seeking applications for four full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (i.e., open rank). Expertise can include, but is not limited to, the social and behavioral sciences, health professions, and public health/epidemiology. Three primary faculty appointments will be in the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (https://www.ohio.edu/medicine/research) with opportunities to collaborate with our preeminent healthcare system partners, including the Cleveland Clinic and OhioHealth. The fourth primary faculty appointment will be with the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs (https://www.ohio.edu/voinovich-school/).
Depending on research needs and training, these research-intensive faculty members may be on the Athens campus (Ohio University's Main Campus) or on the extension campuses in Dublin or Cleveland, OH.
The research of the three primary faculty appointments in the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine is expected to complement the strong basic, clinical and social science efforts of the 3 HCOM-affiliated research institutes: 1) The Diabetes Institute (https://www.ohio.edu/medicine/di) with focused efforts on treatment and management of diabetes and related chronic conditions; 2) the Infectious and Tropical Disease Institute (https://www.ohio.edu/medicine/itdi) with focused research on tropical disease, reproductive/sexual health, and bacterial pathogenesis; and 3) the Ohio Musculoskeletal & Neurological Institute (https://www.ohio.edu/medicine/omni/) whose mission is improving the treatment, prevention and diagnosis of musculoskeletal and neurological disorders with focused efforts on healthy aging, and pain and injury. All three institutes currently feature numerous federally-funded scientists and welcome additional members that will establish and maintain an extramurally-funded research program that produces innovative, high impact scholarly activity in population health/health disparities. The Voinovich School appointment is expected to engage in the School's applied research efforts related to heath disparities, social and environmental health.
In addition, applicants will have the opportunity to collaborate with Ohio University organizations, including the Ohio Alliance for Innovation and Population Health, the Global Health Initiative and the Appalachian Rural Health Institute. HCOM is both a co-founder (through the Ohio Council of Medical School Deans) and current partner of the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center (GRC).

The three successful Heritage College candidates will enjoy protected time for research, with rich opportunities for participation in medical and graduate education programs. The successful Voinovich School candidate will have the opportunity to work on existing and develop new externally-funded research as an integral part of the mission of this public service college. PhD or terminal degree by start date with a programmatic research foci with relevance to community, public and population health to improve our understanding of social determinants of health and health disparities
