Job Description:

The SEM Patrol Agent/Receptionist is primarily responsible for ensuring university guests & visitors experience and form a favorable first impression of Kansas City University. The Patrol Agent/Receptionist also works alongside SEM patrol officers by responding to emergencies and executes appropriate action when dealing with problems, incidents, and/or safety hazards or concerns, as well as maintains accurate and current records

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as primary contact for University visitors and dignitaries during business hours
  • Effectively operates the University's telephone system
  • Dispatches officers to calls using the KCU radio system
  • Sends emergency Alerts & information
  • Helps ensure the safety and security of the primary access point to the University.
  • Handles administrative tasks, as needed
  • Armed position
  • Represents department and the University favorably and in accordance with established Core Values and expectations
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization and department



Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum of one (1) year of security and/or law enforcement preferred
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with all constituents
  • Strong phone voice, projecting positive, friendly, helpful service
  • Must demonstrate professional business etiquette
  • Must be able to exercise good judgment and maintain discretion in communicating with staff, faculty, students, and outside visitors
  • Basic knowledge/skill of word processing, data entry, and Internet navigation essential
  • Must have good organizational skills, be detailed-oriented, be a self-starter, and able to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Flexibility and adaptability to shifting priorities and University demands essential
  • Ability to maintain a positive and upbeat demeanor with all interactions (face-to-face and phone)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple interruptions, while working on a variety of tasks, yet maintaining a positive, professional disposition
  • Demonstrate ability to make good judgments and independent decision
  • Ability to quickly respond to emergencies
  • Military security experience is acceptable with proof of honorable discharge (DD214)
