The Department of Chemistry at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a tenure track position in organic chemistry at the assistant professor level to begin for fall 2021.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related area; experience teaching at the undergraduate level; experience mentoring undergraduate students in research; and a commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds and pre-college academic preparation. Our ACS-approved chemistry department is equipped with major and modern instrumentation that is used in both our teaching and research. Our faculty members are active scholars, who lead externally funded research and pedagogical projects. Applications are encouraged from applicants with a strong background in any current or emerging areas of organic chemistry. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, minimizing barriers, and increasing equity and completion rates between members of different demographic groups.
• Teach undergraduate organic chemistry (lecture and lab), general chemistry (labs and/or lecture), and the option to teach advanced courses in the area of the applicant's expertise. The mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, remote, and/or any combination thereof.
• Supervise and mentor undergraduate research students leading to publications and professional presentations.
• Develop and sustain independent and externally funded research.
• Participate in service activities for the department, university, and community.
