Appointment: Temporary, part-time position with appointment and schedule to be determined by Director of Athletics, in conjunction with Director of Athletics Communications. Anticipated appointment September - May.

Work Location:
This position is based in Tacoma, WA.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Director of Athletics Communications, this position will assist in providing communications, marketing/promotional services for 23 varsity sport programs, including, but not limited to, assisting with game day operations and stats for home events, creating website and social media content such as game recaps, feature stories, and historical archive maintenance. This position will also assist with, and at times oversee, live stream video production and broadcast. This position will assist in the supervision of event support staff, including students.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, sports management or a related field highly desired.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of NCAA playing sport regulations
  • Ability to work nights and weekends, as required
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community


The following physical requirements are specified due to work that takes place in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, including press boxes, stadiums, athletic fields, as well as office environments.

  • Must be able to stand for periods of time (in inclement weather)
  • Must be able to climb at least three flights of stairs without assistance
  • Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds without assistance


Compensation and Benefits:
The anticipated range for this position is $20.00 per hour. Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.

Please note:
-Positions that work less than .75 FTE (1,560 hours per year) do not qualify for long-term disability or education benefits.
-Positions that work less than .50 FTE (1,040 hours per year) will accrue paid sick leave but are not eligible for additional benefits.
-Temporary positions that work at least .50 FTE (1,040 hours per year) will be eligible for benefits.

This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

This position is not eligible for benefits; however, employees may make elective deferrals into a retirement plan.
