Job Description:

Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine seeks an Anatomy Laboratory Teaching Assistant as full-time staff to prepare prosections, set up the laboratory for teaching, help in exam setup, coordinate, maintain, and supervise students engaged in Human Anatomy laboratory learning activities. The staff member shall have the responsibility of assisting the CDM anatomist in teaching activities and associated laboratory sessions, primarily for dental students. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the CDM anatomist, prepare anatomical specimens for instruction, assist in the logistics of instruction and evaluation, provide laboratory support in gross anatomy laboratories, assist with research activities, and perform other duties as assigned. The incumbent must be a motivated and engaged individual who is excited to contribute to an innovative and dynamic dental education program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare prosections and assist with cadaveric dissection for teaching

Set up laboratory specimens and accompanying teaching tools for laboratory sessions, practical exams, exam reviews, and other events

Work closely with the Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences and Lab Manager to coordinate gross anatomy lab usage

Grade assignments, quizzes, practicals/exams, remediations, and other assessments in collaboration with the CDM anatomist

Proctor laboratory practical exams and clean up afterwards

Supervise/carry out the physical set-up and preparation of equipment and materials needed for anatomy labs, as well as return equipment and materials to storage and related clean-up tasks

Maintain consistent schedule of arriving and being present at least thirty minutes prior to class and/or lab

Assist the CDM anatomist in developing course and research project materials

Assist with data collection, analysis, and processing

Assist with research conduct and documentation, and in writing research reports

Documentation development, searching, retrieving, and synthesizing literature, record-keeping, and report preparation

Other duties may be assigned in accordance with curricular objectives, learning outcomes, and research-related needs

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college in a life science field

Applicant must have completed two semesters of Anatomy or equivalent science courses

Experience in human body dissection and knowledge of medical terminology

Proficiency in use of the Microsoft Office Suite programs

Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines reliably

Able to pay keen attention to details

Strong academic background in biology, including the specific discipline of human anatomy, and good technical dissection skills

In-depth knowledge of the prevention of occupational hazards and laboratory safety

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in a related field

Photoshop and graphic software mastery

Statistical analysis experience
