GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the directions of the assigned supervisor, the HVAC, Building and Control Engineer is responsible for maintaining building automation and efficiency in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Condition (HVAC), central plant and associated systems and controls to ensure proper functioning and operation of HVAC, control, and related central plant systems. This includes heating/air, central plant operations and controls, air conditioning and/or refrigeration systems, facility automation systems, vacuum systems, pneumatic systems, and compressed air systems; facility automation systems include, Direct Digital Control Systems (DDCS), Energy and Building Management Systems (BMS), Local Area Networks (LAN), BACnet Networks, programable field devices and digital controllers; identifying repair/replacement needs necessary to maintain equipment and systems; providing necessary information on the proper uses of the equipment; and ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner.

SKILLS: required to perform multiple technical tasks with an occasional need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: working knowledge of BMS and DDC systems and components including the ability to design, code, test, and debug those systems. Ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair LAN and BACnet systems. Operate, maintain, and repair equipment used in heating/air conditioning, vacuum, pneumatic, compressed air, and refrigeration systems; preparing and maintaining accurate records; adhering to safety practices; and handling hazardous materials. Use of new or additional equipment brought about by new technology shall be incorporated consistent with the level of responsibility and complexity of this job.
KNOWLEDGE: required to perform basic math including calculation of fractions, percent's and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: working knowledge of BMS and DDC systems including the ability to program, modify, and debug those systems, working knowledge of LAN and BACnet systems, methods used in maintenance of heating/air conditioning / refrigeration/ vacuum/ pneumatic/ compressed air systems and related equipment; safety practices and procedures.
ABILITY: required to schedule a number of activities; gather, collate, and/or classify data; prepare documentation (e.g. service records, work orders, requisitions, work performed, etc.), program, modify, and debug software and coordinate a significant number of factors in the use District equipment, control systems, LAN and BACnet systems, and software. Flexibility is required to work with others under a variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined and similar processes; utilize District software, and operate equipment using various methods of operation. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of similar types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues, create plans of action and reach solutions. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and learning styles of community college students and staff.

Salary Range: SEIU 717-4

CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY & RETIREMENT PLAN
The HVAC, Building and Control Engineer is a classified position represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), in compliance with all applicable sections of the California Education Code and related statutes.
Employees in classifications represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1021 and are required to comply fully with the SEIU/Marin Community College District (MCCD) Collective Bargaining Agreement. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section of our Human Resources site. SEIU employees are also members of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), to which the member contributes up to 8% of their reportable compensation on a monthly basis.
SELECTION PROCESS

Life Insurance - $50,000, with the option to purchase additional voluntary life insurance for the Lesser of 5x base annual salary or $500,000
