Job Summary
Working under the supervision of the Director of the Student Success Advising Center, the Student Success Advisor I promotes student success in an effort to support student retention, progression, and graduation. The Student Success Advisor I is responsible for helping students make purposeful choices and maintain momentum as they progress through their academic pathways. The Student Success Advisor I will initiate contact and provide intrusive advisement to student populations including, but not limited to students enrolled in co-requisite courses, students in the Grizzly Success programs, and students within the BUSA, EDUC, HEPR, and HUAR STEM focus areas. Student Success Advisors incorporate core competencies set by the National Academic Advising Association into advising knowledge, advising practice, and advising professional development.
Responsibilities
Guide students in developing success plans that include setting goals and identifying, planning for, overcoming potential obstacles, and monitoring progress toward goals.
Advise current and prospective students on course selection, degree programs, campus resources, and career options based on students' interests, goals, needs, and degree progress; Monitor students' academic progress.
Make referrals to campus services based on students' individual needs and interests and conduct timely follow up with students.
Respond to student queries in a timely manner.
Facilitate one-on-one advising sessions with current and prospective students
Instruct students on how to use technology including Degreeworks, Banner, College Scheduler, and D2L
Maintain student records and data security and accurately document student interactions in advising management system in accordance with FERPA and GGC policies.
Deliver presentations to prospective and current students; Participate in campus events including, but not limited to Grizzly Orientation, Green Scene, and Preview Days.
Participate in professional development activities to stay current on trends and best practices related to academic advising and student success in higher education.

Required Qualifications
4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in counseling, education or related field
One year of experience working with students in a college setting
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate Degree
Experience with academic coaching and advising
Experience with BANNER
Experience with Navigate
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a global community
Strong presentation skills
Strong sense of professional ethics
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the Internet
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and records
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
