Work Schedule
This is a regular, full-time, tenure-track position. Assignment is a 166-day schedule of 14-16 contact hours per week. Work will require day and evening hours at various locations during the fall and spring semesters with an expectation of regular campus presence. Potential for summer hours also exists. This position will typically work one to two evenings a week during the fall and spring semesters and will have assignments at Centers. This position will require the ability to instruct in a variety of modalities.

Position Summary
This regular, full-time, tenure-track faculty position reports to the Chair, Social Science and Integrative Learning. The position is responsible for instruction according to Psychology course outcomes in General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and related topics, teaching a full load each Fall and Spring academic semester primarily at regional Academic Centers, the main campus in Battle Creek, Michigan, and via virtual instruction as needed by the Department. Travel to other regional campuses or off-site approved locations is required for instructional assignments, departmental and college meetings, training, and events. Teaching assignments will be primarily in-person and may include evening assignments based on Department needs. Full-time faculty engage in continuous improvement of curriculum, professional development, student recruitment and retention, and college and community service commensurate with skills and experience.

Kellogg Community College is located in Battle Creek, Michigan, a community of approximately 54,000 people. Leisure activities, natural resources, and learning opportunities provide a foundation for residents. Located along the I-94 interstate, Battle Creek is within 30 minutes of Kalamazoo and Lansing, 60 minutes to Grand Rapids and within 3 hours of Detroit, Chicago, and Indianapolis.

Physical Demands
The job responsibilities are performed in an office area and presentation venues. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as independent mobility between work areas, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 - 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master's degree in Psychology or Counseling OR a Master's degree with at least 18 graduate credits in Psychology or Counseling course work from an accredited institution at the time of application; attach unofficial transcript showing coursework completed and degree conferred.
2. Minimum of two (2+) years of successful post-secondary teaching experience.
3. Demonstrated successful experience delivering instruction/training face-to-face and in different modalities (for example, hybrid, fully online, by videoconference).
4. Experience using instructional technology.
5. Must have ability and means to travel among regional work sites.
6. Ability to teach Psychology and its sub-fields from multiple perspectives and theoretical standpoints, such that students are introduced to the different approaches, evidence, and arguments found in the discipline.
7. Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion, and experience working with a diverse population.

Preferred but not Required

1. Ph.D. in Psychology.
2. Minimum of two (2) years (full-time) successful work experience in the field of Psychology or Counseling.
3. Demonstrated teamwork capabilities.
4. Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and the future of higher education.
5. Experience in a community college setting and/or experience using learner-centered pedagogy.
6. Evidence of professional, postsecondary, community service; and/or experience in implementing Service-Learning in a postsecondary environment.

Proposed Salary

Job Duties

Essential Function: INSTRUCTION

Description:

• Teach transferable Psychology courses, such as Introduction to Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Social Psychology by planning, organizing, and delivering instruction using classroom or varied modalities to promote student success within the community and college setting in accordance with college policies and practices.
• Develop and coordinate curriculum and prepare course materials in Psychology according to accreditation and best practices in collaboration with other psychology faculty.
• Adhere to and continually improve intended course outcomes and develop learning activities, strategies and assessments necessary to achieve course outcomes.
• Engage with key stakeholders to assure that current and relevant curriculum necessary for transfer and program preparation.
• Submit student attendance, grades, participate in student General Education assessment, and other records according to the determined deadlines.
• Assume teaching assignments at all College locations, within all College hours of operation, collaborate with Department Chair to establish a course schedule to meet student needs and in all modalities as needed.

Essential Function: STUDENT RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION

Description:

• Support the Social Science and Integrative Learning department by helping to recruit and retain students in psychology and departmental courses and supporting service learning in Psychology courses.
• Commit to the advancement of outcomes related to historically underrepresented populations in the Social Sciences.
• Serve as a psychology expert and enthusiast for students and others seeking information about careers and further education in the discipline. Represent the College in activities to promote Social Science education and encourage student enrollment and completion.
• Collaborate with the Admissions Department and the Marketing and Communications Department in program recruitment, promotional, and admission efforts.
• Support and cultivate collaborative partnerships with K-12 school systems and other post-secondary educational institutions to maximize the number of students served by KCC's Psychology courses.
• Collaborate with secondary and postsecondary colleagues to generate opportunities for articulation, dual enrollment, and Early College.
• Develop strategies intended to improve student access, student success, and cost efficiency.
• Maintain office hours; foster relationships with students to inspire, mentor, and remediate students in need to encourage retention, persistence, and completion.

Essential Function: CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

Description:

• Maintain current knowledge of trends in the psychology discipline and of best practices in educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
• Collaborate with administration and faculty to maintain continuous quality improvement processes and plan appropriate strategies based on assessment of student learning.
• Participate cooperatively in instructional meetings and committees.
• Seek out and engage with institutional initiatives which enhance the mission of the College.
• Provide service through leadership and participation on workgroups and College and community committees.

Essential Function: SERVICE AND GROWTH

Description:

• Complete assessment responsibilities as it relates to quality initiatives and accreditation standards outlined by Kellogg Community College.
• Mentor Psychology adjunct faculty in conjunction with department goals.
• Collaborate with faculty colleagues and administration in strategic and budgetary planning to assure necessary resources.
• Participate in institutional professional development training including but not limited to online teaching/learning and instructional design/delivery.
• Be willing to teach in another discipline within the Social Science and Integrative Learning department, when applicable and according to qualifications and credentials possessed.
• Other duties may include maintaining/coordinating classrooms, coordinating and ordering supplies for Psychology courses and extracurricular activities.
