Job Summary

The Assistant/Associate Vice President for Athletics Development oversees the fundraising programs for UTSA Intercollegiate Athletics providing vision, strategic leadership and oversight of all fundraising activities in support of Roadrunner Athletics. This position will ensure a strong alignment and coordination with university-wide advancement strategies and campaign priorities. Reporting to the Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, this role is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive athletics development program to secure major and principal gifts, expand annual giving, strengthen donor engagement, and steward impactful partnerships.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Leads the strategic planning, execution, and management of all fundraising initiatives for UTSA Athletics, including capital projects, scholarships, program support, revenue share and endowments.
  2. Serves as a key member of the Athletics executive leadership team, contributing to long-term visioning, financial sustainability, and programmatic excellence.
  3. Collaborates with the Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Engagement and their leadership team to ensure Athletics fundraising aligns with university priorities and is integrated into broader campaign efforts.
  4. Manages a portfolio of high-capacity prospects and donors, with an emphasis on cultivating and securing major and principal gifts.
  5. Supervises and mentors the Athletics Development team, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, collaboration, and donor-centricity.
  6. Serves as the primary liaison between Athletics and Advancement to coordinate strategy, reporting, donor relations, and event planning.
  7. Partners with coaches, Athletics staff, and university partners to identify funding needs and engage donors in meaningful ways.
  8. Provides oversight and coordination of UTSA's Revenue Share fundraising initiatives, ensuring alignment with university and Athletics policies while supporting student-athlete success and external engagement.
  9. Provides strategic coordination and leadership for revenue-generating initiatives directly tied to donor engagement and athletic development, such as season ticket sales, premium seating opportunities, and philanthropic corporate partnerships.
  10. Collaborates with the Roadrunner Athletic Fund and former student-athletes association to strengthen alumni involvement and philanthropic connections.
  11. Represents Athletics Development at university and community events, athletics competitions, donor gatherings, and board meetings, as appropriate.
  12. Maintains a deep understanding of NCAA regulations, UTSA policies, and UT System guidelines to ensure fundraising efforts are conducted with the highest integrity.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • 10 years of progressive leadership experience in development, preferably in collegiate athletics or higher education advancement.
  • Experience supervising and developing teams, managing budgets, and leading through change.
  • Demonstrated success in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts ($100,000+) and experience managing high-capacity donor portfolios.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in intercollegiate athletic ticket sales/operations.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and a commitment to supporting student-athlete success.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands:

  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary, if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
    • Sedentary: Up to 10lbs - Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.


This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
