Job Description:

The Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for designing and leading strategic alumni engagement programs that strengthen Kansas City University (KCU). This position fosters lifelong relationships with alumni-locally, regionally, and nationally-to generate tangible benefits for alumni, students, and university programs. The Director leads the development and implementation of signature engagement initiatives, oversees alumni communications, and collaborates with university partners to cultivate alumni support and philanthropic giving. The Director also serves as the primary liaison to the KCU Alumni Association Board of Directors and supervises the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement and Donor Relations.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Oversight

  • Design and implement university-wide alumni engagement strategies in alignment with KCU's Strategic Plan and philanthropic goals
  • Supervise and support the Assistant Director, aligning team goals and individual responsibilities
  • Serve as a key liaison to Alumni Association leadership to integrate alumni engagement with institutional priorities



Signature Programming

  • Lead the planning and execution of KCU's annual Homecoming, coordinating with internal departments and alumni volunteers to produce a multi-event weekend on both campuses
  • Oversee the Class Reunions Giving Challenge in collaboration with Philanthropy team members
  • Serve as the lead organizer of the Alumni Achievement Awards, overseeing nomination outreach, selection processes, and celebration of honorees
  • Plan and execute 4-6 regional alumni events annually to foster lifelong connections with graduates across the country



Alumni Association and Volunteer Engagement

  • Manage the KCU Alumni Association Board of Directors, including communications, meeting planning, and strategic involvement
  • Develop and grow a robust alumni volunteer program, including but not limited to opportunities for mentorship, speaking to student groups, serving as orientation or commencement hosts, assisting with admissions interviews, and supporting regional recruitment events



Alumni Communications & Storytelling

  • Oversee alumni communications, including the alumni newsletter, website updates, and social media strategy
  • Collaborate with internal partners to amplify alumni achievements and share inspiring stories across platforms
  • Develop segmented messaging and programs tailored to alumni at different life and career stages



Philanthropic Engagement

  • Collaborate with Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement colleagues to increase alumni giving and engagement
  • Manage a small portfolio of alumni donors and prospects, with annual goals for visits, solicitations, and stewardship
  • Support fundraising campaigns and events involving alumni constituencies



Data and Evaluation

  • Partner with Philanthropic Operations to ensure the integrity of alumni data within the university CRM
  • Use data to inform strategy, measure impact, and guide decision-making



Travel & Representation

  • Represent KCU at national medical conferences and other events to build alumni relationships and promote university initiatives
  • Occasionally travel to support events and regional alumni engagement.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in alumni relations, engagement, fundraising, or related fields
  • Demonstrated success in program development, volunteer management, and relationship-building
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Strong writing and editing abilities, with an understanding of digital and print communication tools
  • Knowledge of donor databases (CRM) and event planning
  • Willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends
