Director, Operational Excellence

Summary:

The Director of Operational Excellence (DOE) leads the development, implementation, and administration of operational excellence programs and professional education initiatives and the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) service lines at NEOMED. The DOE ensures alignment with the university’s strategic goals and adherence to margin within partner affiliation project plans. Key responsibilities include operational oversight, curriculum design and delivery for higher education and healthcare operations (Yellow, Green, and Black belts), high-level project mentoring, and collaboration with affiliate hospital systems and community partners. The Director also provides fiscal management, manages staff, outcomes assessment, regular progress and performance reports, and ensures continuous quality improvement of educational programs.


Principal Functional Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategic Oversight:Lead key strategic operational excellence initiatives within the University strategic plan, delivering operational excellence KPIs and metrics. Lead the Lean Six Sigma internal and external service lines and programs (Yellow, Green and Black Belt).

Supervision and Management: Manage human capital, financial resources, and operational aspects for LSS service lines. Create and mentor effective teams to deliver curricula, mentor project teams, and quantify impact of CQI. Manage Operational Excellence team including Operational Excellence Analyst and team (5) of part-time subject-matter expert instructors in the LSS service lines.

Curriculum and Quality Improvement: Direct the development and delivery of LSS certification programs, in collaboration with the Executive Director for Executive & Affiliate Education, including LSS for Higher Education and LSS for Health Care Operations, for NEOMED internal and external partner workforce and select graduate programs in synchronous and asynchronous learning environments. Ensure continuous curricular program improvement. Lead, instruct, mentor, and quantify impact of internal University LSS process improvement projects.

Communication and Administration: Act as a division liaison and consultant to university services/departments.

Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in LSS methodology or continuous quality improvement preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
  • Experience with adult/professional learner methodology.
  • Minimum 5 years higher education or healthcare systems experience.
  • Curriculum design, needs assessment, evaluation, and instructional design experience.
