Position Summary:

The University of Idaho seeks to hire a Full Professor for a tenured fiscal year Extension Faculty appointment to serve as Director. Rank of Full Professor and Tenure will be awarded only if the candidate meets the criteria outlined in department and college bylaws. The duties for this position are detailed below in the administrative summary section of this posting.

Administrative Summary:

The University of Idaho, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Southern District is seeking a faculty member for a 100% administrative role as the Southern District Director. The successful candidate will have achieved the rank of full professor and tenure or its equivalent at an accredited university or will have established a professional record at an institution. This position is administratively responsible to the Associate Dean/Director of University of Idaho Extension and is a faculty member in an academic unit or Extension district. The district director is the supervisor for approximately 19 county faculties in 10 counties and maintains positive relationships with county commissioners to secure support for the county Extension offices. The district director promotes teamwork among county, specialist and research faculty and provides leadership to district Extension program planning. The district director participates in administrative and policy decisions as a member of UI Extension and College of Agricultural and Life Sciences administrative teams. The district director contributes to the broader mission of the university by serving as the Superintendent of the Caldwell Complex to facilitate University outreach. In addition, the director will work closely with the academic department administrators and will provide input on research and teaching needs in southern Idaho. The Southern District office is located at the University of Idaho Caldwell Complex in Caldwell, Idaho. This administrative role will receive a 20% base salary stipend.


Contingency Description:

This administrative appointment or the administrative portion of the faculty appointment is temporary. Employee acknowledges and agrees that in the event there is no longer a need for the administrative assignment, as determined by University in its sole discretion, University may change this Agreement and remove the administrative salary and/or course release during the contract year and employee may return to their faculty appointment, upon 60 days written notice.

Minimum Education/Degree Required:
Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
Required Qualifications:

  • Earned masters degree from an accredited institution with at least one degree in a field of agriculture, natural resources, family and consumer sciences, education or closely related field.
  • Must hold the rank of full professor and tenure or their equivalent at an accredited university Extension program, or a professional record that would qualify for full professor and tenure at the University of Idaho.
  • Experience with effective performance as an Extension educator or Specialist in Extension program development, personnel leadership and program administration and a strong knowledge of and experience with the mission of the land-grant university.
  • Experience with administrative and leadership effectiveness in a complex organization with responsibilities for critical decision-making, budgeting, financial and strategic planning, and personnel management.
  • Experience working in a team, overseeing and promoting a wide range of programs and resources, and collaborating with constituents.
  • Experience with leading a team that empowers others to succeed, fosters respect, builds pride in the accomplishment of shared goals and feeds upon two-way communication.
  • Documented success of grantsmanship and/or securing external funding.

 

 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, delivering and evaluating community-based programs for youth and adult audiences.
  • Experience in personnel management, providing supervision, evaluation and review, mentorship in the promotion and tenure process.
  • Participation in leadership programs such as the Western Extension Leadership Development program or other regional equivalents, LEAD21 or Food Systems Leadership Institute.
  • Experience with collaborative work with county governments, state agencies, commissions, associations and businesses.
  • Positive national reputation as evidenced by appropriate service and experience in serving on multi-state or national committees.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
