Diablo Valley College is seeking to add to its pool of adjunct faculty who can teach ceramics in the art department. We are hiring for an adjunct pool for Fall 2025 and/or Spring 2026 semesters, with possible courses in subsequent semesters. These courses are often taught stacked in tandem.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Master's in Fine Arts, Art, or Art HistoryORBachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in HumanitiesORthe equivalent(NOTE: 'Master's in Fine Arts' as used here refers to any Master's degree in the subject matter of Fine Arts, which is defined to include Visual Studio Arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the ‘Master of Fine Arts' (MFA) degree when the degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other non-plastic arts.An equivalency form found here will need to be completed for those applicants without the Masters or Bachelors in the proper field.)Master's Degree (language):The disciplines listed in the minimum qualifications are determined by the statewide Academic Senate for California Community Colleges. A Doctoral degree (PhD) is considered to encompass a master's degree (MA or MS).

• The applicant will have prior introductory level teaching experience.
• They will have a knowledge of the tools and equipment utilized in an educational art studio space.
• Experience in teaching courses similar to those listed in the job description.
• Varied knowledge in their field as evidenced by a resume and portfolio which reflects dedication to an artistic practice via exhibitions and technical experience.
• Professional experience working with and teaching a diverse student population in a multi-cultural college environment.
• A history of maintaining good working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and community contacts.
• Proven ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment.

• The applicant has experience teaching an introductory ceramics course at the college level.
• The applicant has prior experience and knowledge of wheel and hand-built ceramics techniques.
• The candidate will be able to teach one or more of the following: Wheel-thrown Pottery, Hand-Built Ceramics, Sculptural Ceramics, Figurative Ceramics
• Examples of the courses the candidate may be asked to teach in this position include: ART-152/153 Wheel-Thrown Pottery I & 11, ART-154 Hand-Built Ceramics I, ART-155 Ceramic Sculpture I, ART-156 Figurative Ceramics I
