Position Title: Groundskeeper/Events

 

Job Description:

The Groundskeeper for Missouri Western State University joins a team of individuals who take pride in caring for the University property. The Groundskeeper performs maintenance and upkeep of the beautiful university grounds, landscaping, parking lots, streets, and athletic fields. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Maintains university grounds, parking lots, streets, and athletic fields by mowing, landscaping, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, and patching with the aid of grounds maintenance equipment; including tractors, backhoes, skid loaders, dump trucks, and snow removal equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair on grounds equipment.
  • Picks up trash on campus grounds and streets and empties exterior campus waste receptacles.
  • Assists with moving equipment, materials, supplies, furnishings, etc. for departments and university events.
  • Assists in the installation of underground utilities, such as sprinkler systems, water, gas, sewer, and electrical lines.
  • Measures and paints athletic fields for games and events and performs maintenance on sprinkler systems.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Care and maintenance of turf, trees and flowers
  • Operation and maintenance of grounds equipment
  • Safe operation of mowers, tractors, backhoes, skid loaders, and dump trucks
  • Communication as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, administrators, and the general public

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years of groundskeeping experience.
  • Candidate must have experience in lawn care, landscaping, and snow removal.
  • Must be experienced in operating heavy equipment, tractor, trucks, and skid loader.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Able to work on call nights and weekends for emergency call in work.
  • Ability to frequently lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk on hard or uneven surfaces.
  • Candidate must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license, preferably a Class E license, or willing to obtain within 90 days.
  • Candidate must be safety minded and have the ability to show up to work on time, consistently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in horticulture, farming and landscaping.
  • State chemical applicator's license

 

Physical Demands

  • Very Heavy Work
  • Exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises, and travel.

FLSA Non-Exempt

 

Additional Demands

Some nights, weekends and holidays required. OT as required.

 

Hours of Work

M-F 7am-3:30pm
