Purpose:
The Assistant/Associate Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy will serve as a core faculty member in the MFT Graduate Program. They will maintain a clinical expertise and identity as a Marriage and Family Therapist and will assist in providing high quality instruction and supervision to the MFT graduate students.
Essential Functions:
• Provide courses of instruction, including skills, theory and topical areas related directly to the practice of marriage and family therapy and within the faculty member's areas of expertise
• Participate in the assessment program to evaluate achievement of identified program goals
• Provide advisement and supervision to graduate students as required by the program, particularly within the context of teaching the practicum class and/or clinical supervision
• Assist with recruitment into the MFT program by attending select recruiting events and responding to inquiries in a timely fashion
• Serve on the MFT Admissions committee and assist with selecting high quality applicants and participate in on-campus interviews for the MFT program
• Participate in yearly program orientation to facilitate successful student entrance into the MFT
• Assist Director in maintaining accurate files of student progress to facilitate reporting to accrediting agencies and State licensure boards
Other Duties:
• Assist the Program Director with development of goals and objectives to meet the strategic initiatives of the University. Assist in the receipt and maintenance of accreditation goals.
• Provide occasional coverage for MFT clinic during emergencies/crisis events.
• Provide oversight into supporting staff, graduate assistants or student workers.
Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or a related mental health field with significant hours towards a PhD
• 2 years of clinical and/or academic training experience (MFT or related mental health field), LMFT or eligible, AAMFT Approved Supervisor in Training
• Knowledge of MFT specific clinical modalities and theories, knowledge of MFT supervisory practices
• Experience with MFT graduate level instruction and familiarity with COAMFTE accreditation
• Be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
• Be able to conduct a classroom so as to maximize the student learning experience.
• Be proficient in office technology, office software, video/audio recording equipment and classroom presentation software.
• Able to operate computer and other equipment, answer telephone, direct telephone calls, and communicate effectively with a variety of constituents.
• Possess and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills.
• Possess and demonstrates strong pedagogy.
• Possess an intermediate knowledge of office and classroom technology.
• Be able to assess student ability and adjust teaching as appropriate.
• Be able to work effectively with students in either 1 on 1 advisement, small group settings, or large classroom environments.
• Be able to relate to colleagues in the OBU community as well as be a representative to the professional community beyond OBU.
• Sufficient mobility and physical stamina to conduct 2 to 3 classes back-to-back; travel to local, regional, and national locations; and transport moderately heavy items to offices and classrooms.
Preferred Requirements:
• PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy or a related mental health field with training and professional identity as an MFT
• 5 years of clinical and/or academic training experience (MFT or related mental health field), LMFT, AAMFT Approved Supervisor; higher education administration experience; and/or teaching experience in an online or hybrid format.
Special Requirements:
Must be a member of a local evangelical* Christian church.
*Evangelical is a broad term referring to segment within Christianity which maintains the authority of the Bible and the belief in salvation by faith in Jesus alone.
