Kansas City University (KCU) in Joplin, Missouri, is excited to announce teaching faculty opportunities for the Master of Health Science in Anesthesiologist Assistant (MHS-AA) program, set to launch in January 2026.
This 28-month clinical master's degree program is designed to prepare Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants (CAA)-highly-skilled medical professionals who work within the Anesthesia Care Team to administer anesthesia to patients undergoing surgical procedures. Positions will start in 2025 and 2026. *CAAs and anesthesiologists interested to volunteer by providing content and/or instruction for a specific topic ("one-off") are encouraged to submit to this posting and describe in a cover letter their area(s) of expertise, anticipated contribution (content only, in person or virtual instruction, combination, etc), and desired time commitment.
Position Overview:
Faculty members play a critical role in the implementation of the program curriculum. Responsibilities include teaching course material in various settings, including the high-fidelity human-patient simulation lab, classroom (in person and synchronous virtual), and small group discussion. Faculty participate in curriculum improvements and student assessments to support student success and professional growth. Faculty also provide student advisement and hold regular office hours for academic support.
Teaching Opportunities:
Over the next year, we are seeking candidates to teach in the following areas:
Anesthesia Principles and Practice:
Faculty choice of topics: task trainer and high-fidelity simulation, POCUS, anesthesia monitors and machines, physics, preanesthetic evaluation and examination, advanced cardiovascular and respiratory physiology, advance anesthesia pharmacology, sub-specialty anesthesia and surgery-specific protocols, quality improvement and patient safety.
Time commitment is collaboratively negotiated between the program director and faculty, ranging from 0.2 to 1.0 FTE.
Foundational Sciences:
Areas of focus may include anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology.
These positions are anticipated to be 1.0 FTE, with the possibility of negotiated research time.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited master's level health/medical sciences program or equivalent.
Experience:
For clinicians, practice as a certified anesthesiologist assistant, physician assistant, physician, pharmacist, physical therapist, etc.
For foundational scientists, teaching in a graduate level health/medical science program.
Clinical Opportunities: KCU has several clinical partners available for selection by candidates. Faculty will be employed by KCU or a clinical partner and leased to the other, depending on FTE. If currently employed locally, KCU may negotiate buy-out of clinical time.
