Position Announcement
The Technical Director (a full-time exempt position) is responsible for the overall operation and project management of the scene shop, including drafting construction drawings, calendaring, budgeting, accounting, construction and painting of scenic elements, properties management, and oversight of scene shop employees. This position collaborates closely with directors and designers to reach artistic goals with allotted resources. Once load-in begins, this position coordinates all aspects of scenic load-in and rigging/overhead preparations with other departments: lighting, sound, projection, etc, for maximum efficiency and safety. The Technical Director will work in various venues, including Bastian Black Box, Smith Proscenium Theatre, BB Jones Dance Theatre, Concert Hall, and Outdoor Amphitheatre at the Sundance Mountain Resort.
This position oversees the full-time Scene Shop Supervisor, the lab coordinator for the Stagecraft and Production labs in the Theatre Department.
With the Operations Director, the Technical Director will plan long-range strategies for operations. This position will oversee safety standards and directly supervise professional as well as student staff. The Technical Director will attend required rehearsals, tech/dress rehearsals, and production meetings or delegate an attendee as appropriate.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors in Technical Direction, or closely related field. Extensive (4 -8 years) supervisory experience in theater operations, Shop management, including theater equipment setup, operation, and maintenance.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Technical Direction, or closely related field. Extensive (3 -5 years) supervisory experience in theater operations, shop management, including theater equipment design, setup, operation, and maintenance.
