College/Department Information

Augusta University Libraries provide books, ebooks, government publications, journals, audiovisuals, databases, historical collections, and more, in support of student and faculty research. We provide research assistance in person and electronically and also provide tours and instruction classes for undergraduate, graduate and professional students. Students can request appointments with librarians, including specialized medical reference librarians, for more in-depth research needs. Thousands of research journals are available electronically, in person and remotely - through research databases held in GALILEO and elsewhere, with many available full text.

 



Job Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a high level of support to the Libraries and University through extensive knowledge of Federal Depository collections. This position will process items received from the United States Government Publishing Office that are selected for our depository; perform cataloging and database maintenance; process claims for missing items; update Web Tech Notes to reflect changes in SuDoc classification, titles, item lists, and bibliographic records; assist in maintaining the physical collections; and assist library patrons with locating and using government information resources in print and online.

 



Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

 



COLLECTION MANAGEMENT: Describe, organize, and maintain the Federal Depository collections housed at Reese Library. This includes receipt of material, processing claims for missing material, cataloging, database maintenance, and physical item management such as weeding and straightening items in stacks and shelving. At times, and as needed by University Libraries, this position may assist with other library collection management tasks outside of the Federal Depository collections.

OUTREACH: Prepare visual displays highlighting the Federal Depository collections and participate in outreach activities and events related to the collections

 



REFERENCE SERVICES: Assist on-campus and off-campus researchers and patrons by answering queries regarding the Federal Depository collections and government information resources.

 

 



OTHER DUTIES: Compile and maintain all statistics related to the Federal Depository collections. Perform all other duties as assigned.

 



Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with one year of professional library information services or education experience; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and four years of progressively responsible library experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with an integrated library system (ILS).

 



Familiarity with government information resources and documents.

 



Familiarity with library standards and procedures.

 



Familiarity with library classification schedules such as SuDoc.

 



Familiarity with OCLC World Cat.

 



Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F

Pay Grade: B5

Salary: $17.88/hourly - $21.92/hourly

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Conditions of Employment
