Job Description Summary
The Penn Image-Guided Interventions Laboratory, situated in the Departments of Radiology and Cancer Biology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, is actively seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Specialist. This role will involve close collaboration with Dr. David Tischfield, a newly appointed assistant professor in the division of Nuclear Medicine in the Department of Radiology. Our laboratory focuses on research at the nexus of image-guided interventions, cancer biology, and molecular imaging. We aim to elucidate the impact of the tumor's metabolic microenvironment on both cancerous cells and non-cancerous stromal cells in modulating tumor progression and response to therapy. Our lab employs a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses in vivo animal models of cancer, biochemistry, molecular biology, and molecular imaging techniques. Our research is geared towards translation, aiming to utilize our findings in the development of innovative imaging methodologies and therapeutic strategies for the benefit of patients.
The ideal candidate should possess self-motivation, enthusiasm, and exceptional organizational skills. This role presents an opportunity to engage in an innovative research setting, acquire hands-on experience across various experimental techniques, and contribute significantly to primary research publications. Qualified candidates will be responsible for supporting experimental procedures and analyses. Among the anticipated duties are cell culture, DNA preparation, RNA isolation, protein purification, PCR-based genotyping, RT-PCR, Western Blotting, molecular subcloning, immunofluorescence, live cell imaging, and participation in hyperpolarized MRI experiments. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in science, previous laboratory experience in biological or physical sciences, exhibit exceptional organizational skills, demonstrate a willingness to work with animals, and show eagerness to collaborate within a dynamic research environment, both independently and as part of a team. Prior exposure to cell culture, biochemical, molecular biology, and cell biology techniques is mandatory. This position involves close day-to-day collaboration with Dr. Tischfield to assist in experiments, utilizing a wide array of molecular biology and molecular imaging procedures.
