Student Learning Center Coordinator

We are searching for an experienced Student Learning Center Coordinator at our Goldsmith Campus - Westchester campus. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

The Student Learning Center (SLC) Coordinator assists the Assistant Director, Student Learning Center in the training and supervision of Academic Peer Tutors and manages academic success programs which may include coaching.

 

CORE DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

-        Assists with the supervision of tutors and serves as a tutor.

-        Manages the tutor schedule, appointment system, and serves as the payroll supervisor approving tutor hours on a bi-monthly basis.

-        Interviews and hires peer tutors in consultation with the Assistant Director of the Student Learning Center.

-        Coordinates tutor training including the application of effective techniques and pedagogies, the use of mock sessions to model appropriate tutoring practices, reporting instances of concern through the CARE form, and any other information and/or strategies beneficial to ensuring the tutors are prepared to work directly with students.

-        Collaborates with Student Learning Center staff and other colleagues across the College to provide expert information and guidance as part of tutor preparation and training.

-        Advocates for and advises tutors on protocols for managing difficult situations that may arise.

-        Provides direct subject training to tutors to ensure skills are on par as needed to support tutoring in either Math, Writing, or Studio including use of software/tools as applicable. On hand to troubleshoot should any issues arise during a tutoring session.

-        Develops tutor materials, guides, and other resources as needed.

-        Creates and maintains tutoring-directed learning activities (DLAs)

-        Manages the tutor portal.

-        Leads academic success programs which may include coaching or other programs specifically targeted to serve high-risk populations at the College such as students on probation and re-admits. Meets with these students on a regular basis.

-        Supports students in the completion of Academic Integrity research projects.

-        Leads First-Year Experience (FYE) programming.

-        Provides regular updates to faculty, departments, counselors, advisors, and/or committees as needed around students' progress in specialized academic success programs.

-        Provides expertise in supporting ESL/ELL students.

-        Visits classrooms to support writing instruction as requested by faculty

-        Reviews tutor logs, post-session reports, and follows-up on any student at-risk notifications to ensure the appropriate Campus Life staff have been contacted to assist.

-        Monitors digital communication between tutors and students including sending emails and reminders to students for their appointments.

-        Updates and reviews student assessment forms.

-        Assists with the administrative operations of the Student Learning Center as needed.

-        Manages any student referrals to the Student Learning Center.

-        Helps the Assistant Director with the gathering, interpretation, and reporting of Student Learning Center operational/student assessment data.

-        Assists in the handling of problems and complaints from peer tutors and staff.

-        Assists in the development of the Student Learning Center's digital presence on the college's learning management system (LMS).

-        Maintains and updates the Student Learning Center's Libguide/s.

-        Ensures excellence in customer service for all Student Learning Center services.

-        Answers student general informational questions

-        Aids in the development, deployment, and management of Student Learning Center social networks and social media as needed.

-        Manage Student Learning Center Bookings calendars and SLACK channels.

-        Attends relevant committee meetings as directed by the Assistant Director

-        Performs other related duties as assigned.

-        Cross-trained to support other Student Learning Center services/programs as needed such as the Writing Labs or workshop development.

 

 



Required Qualifications:

 

 

 

Required: Bachelor's degree (preferably in English or related field). A minimum of 1-year academic coaching/programming experience and/or tutoring experience. A minimum of 1-year experience working with English Language Learners.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:  

    

      Preferred: Fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and/or Korean. Have experience working in a Writing Center and/or Learning Center.

      



FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

Compensation Type: Annual Salary

Salary Range: 50,000.00 - 60,000.00
