The University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences & Advanced Medicine invites qualified individuals to apply for an open faculty position in the Tenure Track (TT) at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Working Dog Science. The strongest candidates for this position will have a record of scholarship in working dog science (WDS) that includes extramural grants, studies, and program development. The successful candidate is anticipated to have or develop an independent and extramurally-supported research program. The successful candidate's primary area of focus might involve any number of WDS scientific fields including olfaction, genomics/genetics, behavior and welfare science, cognitive neuroscience, and human-animal interaction, amongst others. However, preference will be given to applicants with a research focus utlizing working dogs as a model or target group. Standing faculty members in the Tenure Track (TT) are primarily devoted to research in their field of expertise and generally no more than 20% of their time in clinical patient care, teaching, and/or service. It is imperative that the candidate's primary and driving career interests and goals include scholarly accomplishment in the field, procurement of funding to support their research. It is expected that the candidate fully understands the duties and expectations specific to the TT track, including the expectation that TT faculty excel in teaching and/or service, in addition to scholarship. Clinical activity of a TT clinical scientist should contribute to their research focus.
This position presents a major opportunity to drive the research vision and direction of the Penn Vet Working Dog Center (https://www.vet.upenn.edu/wdc). The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to engage and/or integrate with established and interdisciplinary programs across the University of Pennsylvania and within the School of Veterinary Medicine, including Behavior Medicine (https://www.vet.upenn.edu/veterinary-hospitals/ryan-veterinary- hospital/services/behaviormedicine), Shelter Medicine (https://www.vet.upenn.edu/research/centers- laboratories/research-initiatives/shelter-medicine), and the MSc program in Animal Welfare and Behavior (https://www.vet.upenn.edu/education/graduate-programs/msc-animal-welfare-behavior).

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a doctoral degree or degrees. While not a requirement, individuals with a DVM/VMD or other doctoral veterinary degrees are encouraged to apply. The strongest candidates will have a demonstrated record of academic success, however, candidates with less experience but with a drive and desire for academic excellence and research are encouraged to apply.
