Position Summary

Instructor (Non-Tenure Track)
Applied Flute and Music History
Department of Music

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach applied lessons to undergraduate flute students
  • Lead weekly flute studio class
  • Team-teach woodwind techniques
  • Teach courses in the music history sequence and music history electives for music majors
  • May teach in additional areas based on department needs and candidate's experience such as music theory/aural skills, functional piano, history of rock, jazz appreciation, and/or music appreciation
  • Organize weekly common-hour student recitals
  • Participate in Service to the University and profession as defined in the Promotion and Tenure Guidelines for RNTT faculty
  • Actively participate in recruitment and retention efforts on- and off-campus



Required Qualifications


  • A master's in flute performance (degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government-certified university)
  • Elevated profile or promising trajectory as a flute performer
  • Demonstrated experience teaching or a cognate in music history
  • Demonstrated commitment to recruiting and retaining students
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate students and work collegially within the University community
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
