About the opportunity
The Faculty of Dentistry, Dalhousie University, is seeking applications for a full-time, probationary tenure-track or tenure-track Public Health Dentist at the rank of assistant or associate professor. Preference will be given to those candidates with didactic and clinical teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level in public health and/or epidemiology. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualification, experience and achievements.
Dental Public Health is a division in the Department of Dental Clinical Sciences and involved in teaching oral health promotion, cariology, community dental health, geriatrics, biostatistics, epidemiology, ethics, and evidence-based dentistry.
Candidates must possess a DDS/DMD. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Dental Public Health or equivalent and be eligible for licensure by the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia. If the candidate has not successfully completed their National Dental Specialty Exam (NDSE) in Dental Public Health administered by the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB) they must successfully do so within 12 months of the start of the position. Consideration will also be given to candidates who possess a DDS/DMD together with PhD in epidemiology, public health or equivalent field and are eligible for licensure by the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia.
The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of statistics and research methods related to population-based and clinical epidemiology. They will have some experience in undergraduate dental education and administration and will engage with and monitor student events and clinic rotations to determine and implement improvements in dental public health in the community. Development of a program of research is a requirement therefore, experience as an independent principal investigator in research related to dental public health and/or medical/dental ethics is an asset. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a commitment to service including health care administration and health promotion in addition to supporting the University’s efforts in equity, diversity, inclusion and access.
